East Road Adult Home sits in the countryside with a farmhouse feel and has been caring for local seniors for over 30 years, so the place isn't fancy, but it's homey and comfortable for folks who like that sort of setting, and with only 11 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms inside a 4,795 square foot house, it feels closer to home than most places do, and you've got large grounds with a big yard, patio, garden, and plenty of walking paths to get some fresh air, and folks can join activities like yoga, karaoke, arts and crafts, bingo, music with animals from the local SPCA, movie nights, communion, bible study, hymn singing, monthly entertainment, exercise, plus onsite and offsite social events, and they like to keep things lively through a resident activity calendar marked with holidays and seasons. The staff at East Road Adult Home is always around, with 16 to 18 certified caregivers spread out over three shifts, never fewer than two or three overnight, and they're trained for dementia care, memory loss, Parkinson's, diabetes, and first aid, and keep up their training each month to meet special needs, so residents get help with daily things like bathing, dressing, eating, moving around, and medication. There isn't a nurse on site and there's no in-house doctor, but staff have a contract in place with a local hospital, so nurses and doctors help as needed, and they can pass out medications according to each resident's plan, but only a doctor updates medical records, which keeps safety in check, and there's a security pull system in every room and bathroom in case something sudden happens, because safety matters a lot out here, with backup through Doyle Communication for fast emergency service. Meals get made right there in the home kitchen, with options for diabetes and allergies, and meals are home-cooked, with snacks available, and the dining room is a good place to gather, while laundry and housekeeping are all part of the basic services, plus there's a barber and beautician right on premises, so nobody has to go far to feel a little pampered. Residents use furnished private or shared bedrooms, common living areas, and can get phone access in their rooms if they want it, while there's a move-in coordinator to help families settle in, and the place works with families closely, keeping them up to date, especially if folks are on the waitlist. The home gets high marks for having a high caregiver to resident ratio, probably one of the highest in the state for places its size, and they care for people needing assisted living, memory care, basic nursing, independent living, or those needing end-of-life hospice, and there's a focus on keeping each resident's independence and dignity going as much as possible, so activities and wellness plans fit what each person needs or likes to do, with a lot of encouragement for each person to help where they can and join in, because everyone is seen as having something worthwhile to add. Transportation's available for appointments and outings, covered either by volunteers or the local bus, and there's also parking for visitors, so coming and going isn't a problem. East Road Adult Home is licensed for up to 20 residents by the New York State Department of Health, and the monthly rent usually falls between $3,000 and $5,000 depending on what's needed, so it's good for folks to check what's right for them. The care is steady, personal, and focused on day-to-day comfort, well-being, and safety, all in a country setting that some folks find just right for living their later years with help when they need it.
Kind attentive staff, homey care
I placed my mom here and overall I'm very happy - the staff are kind, attentive and responsive, the care is excellent, and the homemade food is outstanding. The converted country-house is very clean, homey (big porch, deck, fenced yard) with all-inclusive pricing and three meals a day, but it's an older building with a confusing layout, limited showers, few activities and occasional birds that upset my mom. Despite some turnover and limited availability, the personal care and atmosphere make this a place I would recommend.
