    Beautiful building, inconsistent care, costly

I chose this community for my parent because the building is beautiful, well-maintained, and offers many activities; the staff we interacted with were warm, compassionate, and provided very comforting end-of-life care for my dad - for that I'm deeply grateful. That said, staffing is stretched thin and inconsistent: delayed/unresponsive aides, high turnover, spotty communication, cleanliness lapses, and worrying incidents (theft, confidentiality breaches, even reports of bed sores/mold) were real concerns. Food and dining service felt poor and rushed, transportation was unreliable, and add-on fees/non-refundable charges make it expensive with questionable value - not ideal for higher-care needs. Overall, great for mostly independent residents and many wonderful caregivers, but expect extra costs and uneven care.

    About Brookdale Manlius

Brookdale Manlius sits at 100 Flume Road in Manlius, NY, and offers different types of living and care for seniors, whether someone wants independent living, needs help with daily tasks in assisted living, requires memory care for dementia, or needs skilled nursing and medical help right on site, which means people can stay at the same place even as their needs change over time since it's a continuing care retirement community. The apartments feel comfortable and are available in pet-friendly options, while staff are around twenty-four hours every day for daily needs or emergencies, helping with things like dressing, taking medicine, or just responding if something goes wrong in the middle of the night. The team sets up personalized care plans and keeps adjusting them as residents need, there's counseling available for those who want it, and independent activities and amenities help people stay social and active. There are cozy touches, like a fireplace in the family room, a library with books and daily newspapers, and an on-site barber shop and beauty parlor, so getting a haircut or just sitting with a good book by the fire is easy. Dining rooms are spacious with a private space for family visits or special events, and meals are made with senior diets in mind three times a day, plus snacks all day. The grounds are looked after with care, and there are outdoor walking paths, a courtyard, and raised garden beds where residents can grow plants if they like. Housekeeping, laundry, and cleaning are all handled, and there's door-to-door transportation for shopping or appointments, so getting where you need to go isn't hard. Parking is on site, cable and satellite options are in the units, and guest meals can be arranged too. Brookdale Manlius has programming with events, activities, and fitness or wellness classes, and the community follows all the rules for legal protections, making sure every resident is treated fairly no matter their background, identity, or where their income comes from. People can pay with checks, credit cards, private pay, long-term care insurance, or veterans benefits, and tours are available for anyone who wants to see the grounds and meet the people there. The place has worked with seniors for decades as one of Brookdale's communities, and it really aims to keep people comfortable, safe, and feeling at home as they age.
