    Happy resident praises excellent living

I live here and I'm very happy. The staff are caring, friendly and always willing to help - maintenance, housekeeping and shuttle service are reliable. Dining is excellent (fine-dining feel, fresh meals) and there are constant activities (exercise, concerts, pool, art, clubs) so I'm never bored. The apartments and grounds are immaculate and well-maintained; I feel safe with good security and COVID precautions. It's pet-friendly, conveniently located near medical and shopping, and residents feel like family. It's pricey and there can be a waitlist, but for me it's worth it.

About The Glen at Hiland Meadows

The Glen at Hiland Meadows sits in Queensbury, New York, surrounded by the Adirondack Mountains and Green Mountains of Vermont, and it came about as a joint effort of The Eddy and The Conkling Center, both with long histories in caring for older adults, and it's been quietly making things easier for seniors wanting either independent or enhanced assisted living. There are 74 apartments-both one- and two-bedrooms-a group of 18 cottages, and 28 new garden apartments, and the units have modern features like stainless steel appliances, solid surface countertops, patio or balcony, step-in showers, washer and dryer, cable TV, Wi-Fi, and every place gets regular cleaning, trash pickup, and snow removal, with 24-hour security and an emergency call system for peace of mind. The community covers all maintenance, and houses and grounds stay tidy and pleasant, and there are welcoming porches, landscaped gardens, vegetable plots, walking paths, and outdoor seating areas filled with flowers, so everything stays nice and inviting. Cottages offer a bit more space, with extras like gas fireplaces, bookcases, cathedral ceilings, one-car garages, private lawns, and even backup generators for power.

There's a focus on an active retirement, so the staff, who everybody says are friendly and accessible, put together a strong activity schedule with social, educational, cultural, and spiritual events right at the facility or out in the community, and people also like the library, woodworking shop, art gallery, recreation rooms, game tables, fireside lounge with beverage lockers, and shuffleboard or pool tables. There's a full-service salon and barber shop, and a country store where you can pick up snacks and sundries, handy little things. The Glen at Hiland Meadows makes sure residents can keep busy, and there's always something happening, whether it's exercise classes, line dancing, yoga, water aerobics, strength and balance classes, or senior-friendly cardio, all held in the 5,000-square-foot Wellness Center. Residents can meet with the Resident Service Advisor, who helps them get outside services or health resources if they ever need more support.

Dining options feel special here because a chef prepares meals, which can be fine dining, casual, outdoors, or even catered for private events, and they offer vegetarian and kosher meal preferences for anyone who needs it. Residents also get complimentary scheduled transportation, so doctor visits, shopping, and group outings are easy, and friends or family coming from out of town can stay overnight in one of the guest suites. The entire community is pet friendly, so people can bring their own dogs or cats.

The Glen at Hiland Meadows gives residents different ways to worship, with both onsite and offsite devotional services. The apartments and cottages are well-lit, with simple, cozy touches like twin beds, soft bedding, comfortable armchairs, and artwork, while the common areas have fireplaces and plenty of sunlight for reading or relaxing. People get all their utilities included, there's regular housekeeping, and there are both spring and fall cleanings every year to keep everything fresh. The grounds feature walking trails, a gazebo, and spots to sit and enjoy the views or chat with neighbors. Residents praise the kind, attentive staff and the strong sense of community, with safety, companionship, and comfort the top priorities. Over time, families and residents have come to trust The Glen at Hiland Meadows because of its long-standing reputation, range of activities, wellness support, and the honest, reliable care provided through partnerships with The Eddy and The Conkling Center.
