    Caring staff, clean, homey community

I live here and feel at home - the staff and manager are outstanding, caring, friendly, and always helpful. Meals are excellent with great variety, communal dining and social activities (bingo) make it social and welcoming. The place is very clean, has private bathrooms, fresh linens, 24-hour safety, washer/dryer, pet-friendly spaces like a sunroom/garden, and a convenient location. It's a small, close-knit, family-feeling facility, but rooms are tight with limited storage and the price I was quoted ended up higher than the website. I'm happy here and would recommend touring.

    About The New Burton Homestead

The New Burton Homestead sits over on 401 Floyd Ave in Rome, NY, and you'll see right away that they've got a big yard with lawn chairs and tables under the trees, which makes a nice spot for sitting outside, getting some air or talking with neighbors. This place lets people keep pets, both dogs and cats, and visiting pets are allowed too, but the resident has to take care of their own animals. You'll find the senior living suites have different layouts-there are single rooms with private bathrooms, double rooms that can fit a partner or friend, and horseshoe-shaped suites, and those bathrooms usually have walk-in showers with handrails and call bells for safety. The building has two floors, there's an elevator, and all the hallways and common spaces are wheelchair accessible, including the ground floor units.

People who live here mostly choose independent living, but assisted living and memory care are both available, and there are services for folks who need rehabilitation, whether it's for the long-term or just a short stay. There's also medication management and personal care, like reminders, bathing, dressing, shaving help, and cueing if someone needs a nudge for daily routines. Meals are cooked at the facility and served daily-three meals a day, with the option for guest meals if family or friends come by, and snacks and drinks in between. They've got communal dining areas and smaller kitchenettes in some rooms, and you'll see things like linen service, house cleaning, laundry, and bed making are all part of what's offered.

You'll find beauty salon services right on site, fitness and wellness programs, a library for quiet reading, games for recreation, and music activities with radios and CD players in the rooms. There's a garden for folks who like horticultural activities or just want some fresh air, and the schedule is always packed with seasonal events, arts and crafts, outings, field trips, sports and lawn games, and plenty of social activities aimed at making friends and staying engaged. There's also general counseling and healthcare wellness services, and family planning and birth control clinics, which is something you don't see everywhere.

Wi-Fi and cable or satellite TV are available in both private units and community areas, and each unit has closet space and a safe deposit box. The mail gets delivered and picked up each day, and there's guest parking plus regular transportation for things like shopping or medical appointments. Rooms have call bells for emergencies, and visits from family are flexible, with a secured entry for safety and privacy. Nurses are on staff part-time, and the other staff is trained in resident rights and stays friendly and helpful. They offer services in English, Spanish, and Russian. The yard, outdoor patio, garden, three living rooms with TVs, and a sitting room make it easy to gather or find a quiet spot to oneself. The place accepts private payment, checks, and credit cards.

The New Burton Homestead is a family-oriented community, built for active, friendly seniors who want to live in a place that feels like home but still offers help and company when needed, letting each resident enjoy as much independence as possible.
