    Warm family atmosphere, excellent dining

I toured this beautiful lakeside mansion with only 14 immaculate rooms and immediately felt a warm, family atmosphere. The director personally showed me around; the staff are friendly and engaging, the chef cooks excellent meals, and the dining room overlooking the lake is truly the best communal dining I've seen in Central New York. Care is attentive (including medications), they help with transitions, offer several daily activities, and even allow parents to stay together.

    About The Athenaeum Of Skaneateles

The Athenaeum Of Skaneateles sits next to Skaneateles Lake and is close to the village, which makes getting around pretty handy for residents who need to do errands or want to enjoy the area. This senior living community handles several types of care including assisted living, independent living, memory care programs, and nursing home services, all under a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) model, so people can get different levels of care as their needs change. Residents often talk about the tight-knit, intimate feel here, especially since the groups are small and there's a family-like atmosphere, which helps people feel like they belong. The staff includes people with long nursing experience, including an Executive Director who's got over 25 years of nursing behind her, and that really shows in the way each person's needs are treated as important, whether someone requires help with bathing, dressing, taking medication, or just a bit of transition support for dementia. There's a Queen Anne-style look to the main residence, so when folks come in, they see that bit of old architecture mixed with new support, and the community goes by unique names like "The Adult Home" since it's managed by Peregrine Health Management.

Daily life comes with help for activities like housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, and scheduled meals or all-day dining options, even for those who need special diets due to allergies or diabetes, and everything's prepared with good ingredients. Rooms come furnished, there's an emergency alert system for safety, and there are telephones in rooms for easy communication. The grounds have walking paths and a garden, so residents often enjoy the outdoors, plus there are movie nights, group activities, a beauty salon right on-site, and both scheduled exercise programs and spiritual support to help each person's emotional, intellectual, and spiritual wellness. For getting out, there's transportation and parking, and the staff can take folks to outings, appointments, or special events. Memory care here tries to help each person hold on to their independence and sense of purpose, even as they may need more help, and all the assisted living and independent living options promote the idea that everyone should enjoy life with a bit of help where necessary. People talk about how the staff offer care with purpose, dignity, and respect, and with all the basics like help with daily living activities, 24-hour supervision, and even respite care, it's a place meant to meet a lot of different needs as simply and kindly as possible.
