    Warm homelike facility, staffing concerns

I appreciated the bright, spotless facility, comfortable rooms, attentive and caring staff, great activities, tailored meals, responsive maintenance and hospice/medical options. I also experienced understaffing and slow responsiveness-staff sometimes need prompting and management communication can be lax, with a few unprofessional incidents reported. The cost is high (around $13,000/mo and higher if more care is needed), so weigh the price against occasional care gaps. Overall it felt warm and homelike if you can afford it and monitor staffing.

About Home of the Good Shepherd – Moreau

Home of the Good Shepherd - Moreau sits at 198 Bluebird Rd in South Glens Falls, NY, and offers assisted living services in a home-like setting, which always seems to help people feel more settled, and you'll find several types of care here, including assisted living, enhanced assisted living, independent living, and memory care, so folks with changing needs can stay put even as they need more help as time goes on, plus there's skilled nursing support available for things like catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, and help with moving around or transferring from beds or chairs, which gives peace of mind for residents and their families, and the Moreau Residence provides six different floor plans, from studios to private suites, all designed to be safe and comfortable, so everyone can find a space that fits them.

You'll see staff on-site all day and night, year-round, always there to support residents with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and managing medicines, and they handle laundry and cleaning too, which takes a load off everyone's shoulders, and mealtimes offer three fresh meals a day with vegetarian and kosher options for those who want or need them. For those who follow their faith, devotional services are arranged off-site, but activities happen every day inside, like games, creative workshops, movement classes, and regular outings in the local area, which helps people stay active and feel less isolated.

There's a memory care residence meant just for people living with memory loss, and the care team provides personal plans so each resident gets the support they personally need, including reminders for restroom visits and incontinence care, medication assistance, and help with eating. Common areas are inviting, which means neighbors have places to gather, talk, and do activities together if they wish, and most everything is wheelchair accessible-including the showers.

The community's known for kind staff and a focus on treating everyone as an individual. Residents can join social activities or just spend quiet days if that's what suits them, and there's always help close by when needed, whether for a two-person transfer or more skilled care tasks, and when families need a break, respite care and hospice support are available, which takes away some of the worry about what happens if care needs change fast.

Pricing for room types is published, so there's no mystery about what things might cost, and reviews from real families and residents give Home of the Good Shepherd - Moreau a 3.5-star "Very Good" rating, so folks can get a sense of the place before making any decisions, and if this location isn't quite right, there's a list of nearby assisted living communities to consider. The whole place puts effort into building a feeling of belonging and connection, with friendly staff who know each person by name, so people can feel welcome no matter how long they stay.
