Verrazano Nursing and Post-Acute Center sits over in Staten Island, New York, and they've been around for more than 40 years as a family-run place, keeping things at a comfortable size with 120 beds, which means people aren't lost in the crowd and can get one-on-one care and attention, so there's a close-knit, almost family feeling to the place with staff who genuinely enjoy going about their work and spending time with people who live there, you really feel that sort of friendliness from the way they interact every day. The facility focuses on post-acute care, so what that means is that they're well set up to help folks after they've had a stay at the hospital, with programs and units for different stages of recovery and all sorts of special care options tailored to the needs people have when they're getting better from surgery, illness, or injury, and you'll find nursing services, rehabilitation, and also post-acute care all under one roof, which just makes things a bit easier on families and patients alike. There's a Director of Rehabilitation who runs their rehabilitation department, with dedicated therapy areas, and they use some of their own care terminology that fits their care approach, so what's offered covers occupational, speech, and physical therapy, plus recreational therapy for daily activities to help keep everyone active and engaged. Registered nurses cover the skilled nursing needs here, giving medical care and helping out with things that people can't safely do on their own, and when someone needs help with mental health or social matters, licensed social workers are on hand, ready to step in with support or connect folks to community resources, and social services figure in pretty strongly. Meals matter in a place like this, so the dietary services try to match up with both medical needs and personal preferences, making sure everyone gets what they need to stay as healthy as they're able. Verrazano Nursing and Post-Acute Center keeps things personal with tailored care plans for each resident and offers specialized services and amenities aimed at making recovery and daily life more comfortable, always keeping the focus on what's practical and actually helpful for folks going through different phases of getting better.

Neglect, dehydration, bedsores, theft, unprofessional
My experience was overwhelmingly negative. My loved one suffered neglect - missed care, dehydration/UTI, bedsores and multiple ER/ICU visits - while staff were rude, unprofessional, often understaffed, and the Director of Nursing acted like she didn't take concerns seriously. We dealt with theft/unauthorized charges, had to provide most hands-on care ourselves, and only a few therapists/nurses and admissions staff were genuinely helpful. Despite some kind employees, I cannot recommend this facility - avoid it.
