    Good short-term rehab, some concerns

I stayed here for rehab and got excellent PT/OT, engaging activities, and many kind, hardworking staff who genuinely helped me get home. The place feels homey but is outdated and sometimes short-staffed-I saw unclean rooms, inconsistent wound/skin care, communication lapses, and occasional neglect. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would recommend it for short-term skilled rehab, but I'd be cautious about long-term or bedbound placement.

About Kenansville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center

Kenansville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center sits in Kenansville, North Carolina, and is an award-winning skilled nursing facility run by administrator Mark Childs. The center has 92 certified and skilled nursing beds, offering both short-term rehab and long-term care to people who need help with things like bathing, dressing, and eating, which is good for families looking for a place where their loved ones can get comprehensive support in daily living. The nurse staffing level is 3.27 nurse hours for each resident per day, though the nurse turnover rate is 66.7%. The center meets Medicare and Medicaid standards and is part of the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association as well as Yad Healthcare, making it one of many facilities under that broader organization. Physicians supervise 24-hour nursing care, and the center stores and dispenses medications on-site.

Special services include programs for people recovering from stroke and neuro injuries, with therapy for speech, movement, and strength, and cardiac care that uses up-to-date technology and specialists. They offer orthopedic rehab for people after injury or surgery, plus pulmonary and tracheotomy care for those needing breathing support. There's cancer care, memory care for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, a thorough pain management program, and services for people struggling with swallowing, known as dysphagia care. For those needing support near the end of life, hospice and palliative care are available, always focused on comfort for both patients and families. Infection control is a priority, though two infection-related inspection deficiencies are noted as well as deficiencies in resident assessment and care planning (F0641) and quality of life (F0745), none of which caused actual harm.

The center provides a smoking facility for residents who smoke, and a respite care program so caregivers can take breaks. They offer telemedicine so patients can connect with medical staff day or night, which often means fewer trips to the hospital. People on dialysis get renal care and transportation to and from dialysis centers. For folks with brain injuries, the staff takes a team-based, evidence-based approach for recovery. Sub-acute and post-operative care is provided here as well, giving patients a safe space to recover after surgeries and helping reduce hospital stays and infection risk. All long-term residents get skilled nursing care around the clock that encourages independence and well-being.

While Kenansville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center carries some inspection-related concerns and a higher nurse turnover, it does aim for thorough care, personalized treatment, and has many specialized programs meant to support people with a wide range of needs in a setting that promotes recovery and dignity.
