    Caring staff, homey but pricey

I placed my mom here and, overall, I'm glad we did. The staff are the biggest strength - caring, professional, friendly, and they know residents by name; the place feels homey with lots of activities, music, and a festive, family-oriented vibe. The facility is clean, recently updated, and apartment-style rooms are comfortable. Biggest drawbacks: inconsistent dining (some report very good meals, others say food is prepackaged and unappetizing), understaffing/unfilled positions that slow response times, and occasional management/staffing issues that worried me. It's on the pricier side and there can be extra charges, but the strong resident-staff interaction and welcoming atmosphere mean I would recommend it to families who prioritize care and social engagement.

    About Navion of New Bern

Navion of New Bern offers different care levels for seniors, including assisted living, memory care, and short-term respite care, so folks can get help with everyday tasks like bathing, getting dressed, or taking medicine, and the staff stays on-site 24 hours a day to assist whenever needed, which a lot of families find reassuring since you never know when someone might need a hand. The community sits on well-kept grounds with gardens, walking paths, and patios, and there's a hot tub spa outside, which gives residents plenty of fresh air and a chance to relax or garden if they want. The building's one story, making it easier for everyone, especially those who use walkers or wheelchairs, to get around, and inside, you'll find amenities like a game room, library, sunroom, family room for guests, and recreation areas with TVs where folks like to gather, along with dining options for meals, snacks, or even guest meals when family visits.

Apartments come in various sizes, from studios to two-bedroom units, each with features like kitchenettes, accessible bathrooms with showers, emergency call systems, Wi-Fi, cable TV, and climate controls, and residents can choose between handling their own laundry and cleaning or using the provided services, which some like for the extra bit of independence, but it's nice to know help is always available. Navion of New Bern allows pets in the community, so some residents have their dogs or cats, which brings comfort and company, and there's easy access all around the building for folks with mobility issues or those needing wheelchairs-showers are wheelchair-accessible, too. Outings to restaurants, stores, and local attractions happen regularly, and there are plenty of daily activities on site, from yoga and chair stretching to arts and crafts, games, music, gardening, a resident musical group, and educational programs, plus religious and devotional services if that's important.

Memory care at Navion of New Bern focuses on supporting seniors with Alzheimer's or other types of dementia, and care plans are individual for residents-staff trained in dementia, diabetes, first aid, and disability needs help keep residents safe and comfortable, with features like controlled access and safety systems. Meals, snacks, medication reminders, and health programs get planned out for each person, and therapy services like speech, occupational, and physical therapy are available, with part-time nurse care, wound care, podiatry, and hospice as needed. There's a beauty and barber shop on site, gym and spa services for relaxation, and both wellness and balance-focused activities, which help some folks stay active or just feel a little better each day.

Residents at Navion of New Bern get plenty of choices, whether that's how meals are enjoyed, using the fitness equipment, joining a hobby club, or signing up for offsite trips. Staff are described as kind and helpful, and residents can grab snacks between meals or park their own car if they drive, because there's both guest and resident parking. The community scores well in reviews, with a focus on maintaining a friendly, neighborly feeling and offering enough activities that most anyone can find something to enjoy. Staff give personal attention for needs like grooming, support with medicine, reminders for doctor's appointments, or just a helping hand with daily life, which a lot of older folks appreciate, especially those wanting just the right amount of support to keep their freedom without feeling watched over all the time.

Navion of New Bern accepts private pay, long-term care insurance, and Veterans Aid (VA) benefits, which helps with flexibility for different financial needs. The facility welcomes adults aged 55 and up, and room options include units with safety features and plenty of space for personal items, even 2-bedroom apartments in different layouts, and everything stays maintained with regular cleaning, groundskeeping, pest control, and trash removal. The way they run things here tries to strike a balance between letting residents make choices for themselves while providing enough care to keep everyone healthy and safe, which has made a difference for many families choosing this place for their loved ones.
