    Caring staff but serious neglect

I'm torn. The facility, activities, and many long-term staff are warm, capable, and provided good medical support - my relative likes living there and the 24/7/doctor visits gave some peace of mind. But chronic management failures, high turnover, and serious cleanliness/neglect issues alarm me: dirty rooms and linens, urine/soiled clothing, roaches/bedbugs, unsanitary dining, improper baths/laundry, pills left unsupervised, overmedication, and unresponsive staff. Until leadership fixes those problems I can't fully recommend it despite the caring employees.

    About New Hanover House

New Hanover House offers seniors a safe and supportive place to live, with different living options like independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing on one campus, and while exact amenity details weren't listed, there are steady features parents and grandparents tend to ask about, like private or shared rooms that can come furnished or not, each with a private bath and a walk-in shower that's easier for those with walkers or wheelchairs, plus everyone gets their own climate control and cable TV if they want, and meals come three times a day with extra snacks, all planned by professionals so diets can be adjusted if needed. The campus is secure so folks with memory troubles, especially those with Alzheimer's or dementia, are looked after in a safe way, and there's an emergency alert system in place in every room, with caregivers there anytime day or night to give a hand with things like bathing, dressing, and getting around, sometimes even giving a little help with medication or medical needs. Families can rest a little easier knowing on-site teams support with therapy, pharmacy, and physician services, while housekeeping, building maintenance, and transportation keep things running smoothly, and there's always a nurse or provider available for skilled care or specific medical routines like diabetes care or help for those who don't get around as well. Folks at New Hanover House can join in community activities, exercise classes, arts and crafts, live entertainment, and all sorts of social gatherings, and there are special therapies and structured programs for memory care residents too. The salon and barbershop are on site, there's a spa folks can use, and people who need a short stay after surgery or while their main caregiver takes a break can find respite care options set up for shorter visits, with all the same support, meals, and activities as anyone else. New Hanover House aims to shape care plans to each person, and the staff takes steps to keep residents engaged, comfortable, and as independent as possible while giving help when it's needed, in a place set up for older adults to feel safe and have a good quality of life.
