    Beautiful facility but unsafe management

I chose this community for the beautiful, very clean grounds, welcoming lobby, great location and food - my parents loved the staff, the easy move-in, and dietary accommodations. It's pricey and rent increases annually, which is hard on fixed incomes. Sadly, in my experience serious care problems emerged: medications mishandled/unsecured, poor written communication, blame between shifts, and management didn't take accountability - we were forced to move out and paid out of pocket, with tragic consequences. Amenities and many staff were excellent, but the safety and management failures make me cautious about recommending it.

    About Parkwood Village

Parkwood Village sits in Wilson, North Carolina, offering a wide range of living options like independent living apartments, assisted living, and memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or other dementias, and there's this secure neighborhood side designed to ease confusion and wandering for memory care residents, with the Bridge to Rediscovery program giving award-winning support. The campus is pet-friendly so residents can bring their pets along, and there are plenty of choices for apartments, from studios and one-bedrooms to two-bedrooms, many with private bathrooms, kitchenettes, laundry facilities, and walk-in closets, plus some have full kitchens if you like to cook your own meals now and then. There's a gated entrance for safety, emergency call systems in every unit, and 24-hour staff ready to help with things like medication reminders, personal care, speech, physical, and occupational therapy-offered by an experienced rehab team, including FOX Rehabilitation services, for folks recovering from injuries or dealing with physical changes.

The community has lots of places to gather: a game room, card room, movie theater for movie nights, outdoor courtyard with a fountain, lounges with flowers on tables, and even a bar and cocktail lounge that hosts happy hour events, where neighbors can sit and swap stories or play bridge. There's an on-site library, chapel, chapel services, computer workstations, concierge for little errands, and activity studios where the staff put on resident programs, garden clubs, religious services, live music, and regular social events that keep people busy if they want to join in. The grounds have community gardens, parks, outside walking paths, a dog park, a pond, benches for resting, and lush landscaping. Residents can swim year-round with an indoor heated pool at the Cottages Clubhouse and there's an outdoor pool too. The place is friendly for folks with walkers or wheelchairs and includes covered parking and plenty of spots for guests and residents' cars.

Dining is restaurant-style with the MyChoice Dining Program, so residents can pick meals that suit their taste-anywhere from one to three meals a day, and they offer nutritious food made with quality ingredients, with a private dining room for family gatherings, a care-focused dining room in memory care, and even a complimentary breakfast if you're someone who likes to start the day with others. Housekeeping and laundry are provided regularly and all apartments come with cable, satellite TV, and high-speed internet or Wi-Fi. There's scheduled transportation for shopping trips or outings, and even group trips for clubs or lifestyle enrichment programs. Staff can also arrange in-house doctor visits and home health care as needed.

Parkwood Village keeps a full calendar of activities to satisfy folks who like to get involved: there's gardening, group trips, card games, movie nights, exercise and fitness sessions, pet therapy, volunteer opportunities, religious services, and clubs like bridge and a garden club, plus a beauty salon and barbershop on-site, which cuts down on trips out. There's a focus on family-like care, with staff familiar with each resident's preferences and history, and the place welcomes visitors or family who want to take a tour, get a feel for the food, join an outing, or just see how daily life works here. The community, together with nearby The Landing, gives a mix of small-town charm and resort-style amenities, making it a comfortable option for seniors looking for supportive, safe, and social retirement living in Wilson.
