    Caring staff, but inconsistent upkeep

I liked the warm, small, homey memory-care pod - helpful tour, pleasant staff, nice common areas, good food, and my dad was well cared for. That said, responsiveness is inconsistent (no callbacks for nearly two weeks), staff are stretched thin, and I saw rushed prep, occasional unkempt hair and dirty clothes, and even conflicts with my mom when she was upset. The building and some rooms feel old, dark, and in need of updates; activities/calendar are dated. I would recommend this place for its caring, engaged staff and cozy layout, but only with a strong caveat about staffing and occasional lapses in basic upkeep.

    About Ecumen Evergreens of Fargo

Ecumen Evergreens of Fargo sits in a residential neighborhood off a main road and has a home-like feeling with cozy cottage-style buildings, where each home has about 15 suites and residents, relatives, and staff know each other well, so it feels more like a close-knit family rather than a big institution, and you'll find single-floor living that makes moving around easier whether with a wheelchair or walker, plus paved walking paths, patios with tables, and raised garden beds for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. The facility provides several levels of care, such as independent living, assisted living, memory care, affordable housing, long-term care, short-term transitional care, respite care, and even hospice care, and for those who need extra help, there are services like medication administration, bathing, dressing, reminders, companion care, services, and pet care, with trained staff available around the clock and nurses on hand-everyone from personal care assistants to specialists in aging, mobility, cardiac and diabetes care, nutrition, ethics, memory care, and more.

Community life is active and social, with a multi-purpose room, lounge areas with fireplaces and pianos, hair salon and barber services, spa with Jacuzzi, mail and newspaper service, copying and faxing, plus group activities that include arts and crafts, music, spiritual care, chair fitness, educational events, intergenerational programs, games, outings, sports, gardening, and group exercise with programs like Live 2 B Healthy®. Twice a month, a Fargo Public Library representative comes by to deliver books, so residents can keep reading without leaving the building, and the community hosts seasonal, holiday, and themed events that everyone can join. There's a large focus on food, since chef-prepared meals are guided by a registered dietician nutritionist who offers flexible meal times, special diets-like low-fat, low-salt, vegetarian, or dysphagia accommodations-communal dining or room service, snacks, meal delivery and private dining options; the team tries to make meals both familiar and healthy, while residents can help develop the menu, making eating together a big part of daily life.

Safety and wellness come first, with controlled access, security systems, personal medical alert systems, and regular safety checks. Building features and rooms are wheelchair accessible, with easy access showers, wifi, satellite TV, individual climate controls, and space for personal items. Laundry, housekeeping, linen service, bed-making, maintenance, and pest control are all included, so daily chores don't get in the way of enjoying each day. The community keeps a no-smoking policy, provides parking, supports fitness and rehabilitation with physical therapy services, and offers and transportation for outings, medical appointments, and shopping. Residents have access to spiritual care, on-site religious services, and therapy for physical or emotional needs; there's even psychiatric care, pharmacy delivery, hospice, diabetic care, and immunization support.

Because Ecumen runs Evergreens of Fargo as a nonprofit with a focus on dignity and independence, and because of the small, friendly atmosphere, older adults who live here can often feel supported, safe, and involved with neighbors or staff they see every day, and a maintenance-free lifestyle lets people focus on the things that matter to them, whether that's gardening, joining group activities, or just sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee while knowing help is a call away. Payment options include checks, insurance, Medicaid, private and long-term care insurance, so people can discuss what works for their needs. There's a bit of everything-independent living, assisted living, memory care, short-term stays, or long-term support-so folks can find the right fit for where they're at in life.
