    Neglectful, unsanitary, poorly managed hospice

I placed my mom for a short hospice stay and appreciated a few genuinely caring aides. But the facility was badly managed: filthy carpets and dining chairs, mold and possible water damage in showers, A/C and ice failures, and she went four days without a shower. Staffing was inadequate and defensive-night coverage was poor, it took six hours to clean a urine puddle, staff lied about assault incidents, and I saw pressure sores, poor hygiene and force-feeding concerns. Admin refused a return during remodeling and used billing intimidation. Despite some kind staff, I cannot recommend this place.

    About Burford Manor

Burford Manor is a small, for-profit nursing facility with 73 beds, operating under an LLC ownership structure. It is not affiliated with a continuing care retirement community but offers both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care services. Participating in both Medicare and Medicaid programs, Burford Manor serves residents with varying healthcare needs, ranging from medical rehabilitation after hospital stays to assistance with everyday activities for those requiring extended support.

The facility’s approach to care includes support for residents needing daily assistance, such as administering medications and helping with non-medical needs like dressing, eating, and personal hygiene. Short-term rehabilitation is available for individuals recovering from hospitalizations due to conditions such as stroke, heart attack, infection, or injury. According to recent assessments, approximately 34.4% of discharged residents were able to return home following their stay for rehabilitation. During short-term stays, about 0.0% of residents experienced a fall causing major injury, while 9.4% required hospitalization due to serious infections. Emergency room visits were reported for 16.8% of short-term residents during their stay.

In long-term care, Burford Manor emphasizes maintaining residents’ abilities to move, eat, use the bathroom, and manage other daily activities, with 90.1% maintaining these abilities without help. A high flu vaccination rate is observed among residents, with 99.0% receiving their annual shot, reflecting an emphasis on preventative health measures. Nurse staffing averages 2 hours and 49 minutes per resident each day, though staffing levels on weekends have been noted as inconsistent compared to weekdays.

Inspections of Burford Manor assess adherence to health, fire, and safety standards, including food preparation and storage according to professional requirements. The facility has addressed past inspection concerns with corrective actions. Within the past three years, Burford Manor has paid fines totaling $16,390.

Residents benefit from a combination of personal care and healthcare services tailored to both short-term recovery and long-term well-being. The facility’s framework allows for a blend of medical oversight and assistance with daily living, supported by participation in federal healthcare funding programs. Through its blend of services, staffing, and commitment to resident health and safety, Burford Manor aims to serve the needs of seniors and individuals requiring rehabilitative or ongoing care.
