Serene grounds, renovated and run-down
I visited the veterans center and was struck by the beautiful, serene grounds and top-of-the-world views; the newer building on the hill and recent massive renovations stand in sharp contrast to an old, run-down wing. Staff were respectful, dementia care seemed excellent, and the small-town, veteran-focused atmosphere felt tranquil-though signs asking drivers to be quiet and a slightly religious hospital tone made the place feel odd at times. I'm worried about political pressure to close, relocation plans, staffing and funding controversies; I hope they keep residents and staff for the sake of continuity.
