    Beautiful facility, great amenities, concerns

I moved my mom in and overall I'm impressed by the beautiful, brand-new, well-kept building, spacious bright apartments, great location, and a huge activities/amenities program (theater, salon, outings). Many staff are warm, personable and went above and beyond - administration helped a lot during my mom's hospitalization and passing - but chronic understaffing and high turnover leave caregivers overwhelmed. Dining is hit-or-miss: the food can be good, but long waits, missing items and reduced menu choices are real. I also saw communication, billing and medication management problems; it's pricey, doesn't accept Medicaid, and isn't suited for advanced-care needs. I'd recommend with reservations - visit carefully and ask specific questions about staffing, meds and costs.

    About Bonaventure of Albany

Bonaventure of Albany sits near a river and open green fields, offering a mix of independent living, assisted living, and memory care. The building features enhanced front door security, so residents can feel safe. The staff stays on duty around the clock, and every unit has a nurse call system for emergencies. The facility takes care of chores like weekly housekeeping, linen service, maintenance, and all-inclusive utilities, so there's no need to worry about bills piling up. Suites come in different sizes, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units, and memory care has its own private suites too, with safety in mind like wall safes, microwaves in the units, and washer/dryer hookups.

Residents can set their own temperature with individually controlled thermostats, which suits a lot of folks who run hot or cold these days. The facility offers anytime dining, and there's a restaurant-style dining room, a café with coffee, pastries, and frozen yogurt, plus meal service with snacks, so you won't go hungry no matter your schedule. There's a monthly wellness clinic for check-ups, and a nurse on hand helps keep an eye on everyone's well-being. For relaxation or therapy, there's a whirlpool room.

Activities go on seven days a week-puzzles in the puzzle room, cards in the hospitality suite with shuffleboard and poker tables, TV and movie time in the TV and theater rooms, billiards, or a stop at the fitness center or activity center if you want to keep moving. Outdoor walking paths and garden areas let people get fresh air, and the patios and balconies in independent living units make for a nice spot to relax. There's also a beauty/barber salon and a full-service salon if someone wants a haircut or just a bit of pampering.

Transportation comes free for residents, making appointments and trips to town much easier for those who don't drive. There's private mailboxes, a private dining room for family visits, plenty of indoor and outdoor leisure spaces, and a library for quiet reading. Residents can use computers at work stations or enjoy fireplaces and comfortable sitting areas.

Bonaventure of Albany tries to give residents community, care, and comfort with a straightforward approach, focusing on daily life and keeping things simple and safe. Memory care services support those with Alzheimer's or other dementia, with staff who help each person according to their needs. With 54 beds and many different amenities, it's a place that covers the basics while offering a few special touches here and there for daily enjoyment.
