Hayes Manor

Hayes Manor has a long history serving seniors, dating back to 1886 when it first opened as Hayes Mechanics Home for Men, and now men and women from all walks of life live there, with the campus tucked beside Bala Golf Club and big old azalea bushes brightening the grounds, and you'll find a gazebo and walking paths shaded by blooming trees wrapping around the building. The residence offers 53 spacious personal care rooms, each with a private or semi-private bath, and 12 independent living apartments looking right over the golf course with their own bedrooms, living and dining spaces, private baths, and kitchenettes, plus every apartment and room has its own heating and air conditioning controls so folks can stay comfortable. Food service includes three nutritious meals served fresh every day in the Terrace Dining Room, with morning and evening snacks given as well, and laundry and housekeeping services mean residents don't have to fuss about cleaning. Staff provide 24-hour care and keep an eye on security with a closed-circuit TV system all day and night. Personal care services help with bathing, dressing, meals, medication, and getting around, and nurses and nurse assistants are always on duty, while a house physician comes by weekly for check-ups, and there are visits from a dentist, podiatrist, and optometrist. There's a special care unit for folks who need short-term help, and the community offers care for dementia and memory challenges, too. Social life stays lively with daily activities-like bingo, exercise classes, yoga, painting, crafts, and even computer lessons-plus there's a multipurpose activity room for movies and gathering, and weekly social hours so everyone has a chance to mingle; trips out in the residents' van go to shopping centers, restaurants, concerts, shows like the Philadelphia Flower Show, museums, casinos, and even the zoo or down the shore, and you'll sometimes find folks tending the Bumblebee-Herb garden. Hayes Manor holds ecumenical chapel services every week, and birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays are always marked with some sort of celebration or in-house entertainment, while a barber and beauty shop comes in each week. Residents have access to cable TV and the internet throughout the building, and can sit in the lounge to visit with friends, or take in the view of the golf course from the apartment windows. Located near public transportation, shopping, medical facilities, churches, and places of learning, Hayes Manor has grown out of tradition, and continues to welcome and care for people of limited means, offering dignified housing and support with a focus on basic needs, safety, and community.
