    Treated my mom as family

I am deeply grateful - the staff were caring and available 24/7, welcomed my family, and treated my mom like one of their own. After she passed they arranged a service and prayed with us; we felt loved, well cared for, and truly treated as family.

About Good Samaritan Society - Howard

Good Samaritan Society - Howard sits over on West Hazel Avenue in Howard, South Dakota, and has a bunch of different services for folks who are 55 or older so if you're looking for independent living, assisted living, a skilled nursing facility, or even a place for memory care, they've got all those options under one set of buildings, and there's also short-term rehabilitation, outpatient therapy, and hospice care for people who need more medical help for a stretch or toward the end of life. The place has senior apartments for more active people, regular care homes for folks who need daily support, and continuing care so a person can stay in the same area even as their needs change, and if someone needs home care, they send trained aides out to help with non-medical care and companionship to help folks stay at home as long as they can. Inside, you'll find meal services, common rooms, devotional and social activities, and areas for offsite trips, so people can join events or stay involved, and if you're looking after someone with dementia, the memory care folks on site have training in handling those concerns with special therapies and safety. The facility also provides a blend of health care like incontinence support, diabetes care, non-ambulatory services, physical medicine, rehabilitation clinics for those who need to regain strength, and a service center meant to help those with disabilities, so it covers all the common health needs seniors may run into. Staff speak English there, and some clinic members might know other languages too, and they make the effort to focus on caring for the whole person-body, mind, and spirit-so seniors don't feel overlooked. There's a provider directory, which they keep updated each month, and sometimes the place isn't accepting new patients, but you can call to find out about openings, and you can schedule a tour to see the facilities yourself before making any decisions. The place isn't big on giving detailed lists about every service or amenity online, but it does promote strong caregiver support, has respite care for short breaks, and gets recognition for friendly staff, good activities, and quality care, with some Best of Senior Living and All-Star awards. Security systems are in place to protect the property from online threats, and the facility leans toward providing a safe, supportive community with long-term options no matter how much help a resident might eventually need.
