    Clean, comfortable facility with issues

I toured the facility and liked it - very clean, well-kept and homey with hardwood interiors, courtyard, circular secure layout, spacious one-bedrooms, large walk-in showers and good closet space. Staff were friendly, responsive and provided solid care; the dining room offered choices and activities encouraged socialization. Drawbacks: it's on the expensive side and there are occasional staffing/billing hiccups and a few concerning reports about memory-care interactions. Overall, it's a top pick for my family.

    About Brookdale Columbia

Brookdale Columbia sits in a single-story building, easy to move around for people with limited mobility, and you'll find they offer a wide mix of care from independent living to assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and even at-home care, which means you can stay in the same community as your needs change over time. The staff help out day and night, every day of the week, watching out for everyone's safety and helping with things like bathing, getting dressed, cooking, household chores, and managing medicines, and a call system makes it easy to get help in case of emergency. People can pick from different apartment layouts like the Silverdale, Townsend, Richmond, and Ashton, all with their own setups, and the place is pet-friendly, clean, and set up for comfort, with cable TV, Wi-Fi, and pleasant indoor and outdoor common areas, including game and TV rooms, cozy spots with a fireplace and bookshelves, and a porch and courtyard with walking paths and green grounds. Meals come restaurant-style, and you can ask for kosher or vegetarian dishes, and if you like, there's a whirlpool, a barber and beauty shop, a residents' lounge, and onsite devotional services, with offsite options for worship too, so everyone's beliefs get some attention. Every day brings a full slate of activities, both social and educational, with events, signature programs, and gatherings inside or out, so people have lots of chances to stay active and connect with one another, whether through games, walks, counseling, or worship. For those who need it, there's respite care for short stays or hospice if things progress, and the memory care unit is set up to support folks living with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia, while the whole place is designed to keep people as independent as possible for as long as they can, adjusting care promptly when anything changes. Resident parking's available, and rides are offered both for a fee or free of charge, to help get to appointments or outings, and showers and walkways are wheelchair accessible, so you don't have to worry about getting around. Health and safety are a focus here, with round-the-clock staff, counseling, emergency alert systems, and help with medical needs, and you can use long-term care insurance or veterans' benefits if you qualify. The overall idea is to give seniors a friendly atmosphere, keep them feeling active and supported, help them live well at every stage, and offer familiar faces and surroundings even if care levels increase or needs get more complicated.
