    Great dementia care but problems

I highly recommend this community for its outstanding dementia expertise, compassionate and knowledgeable staff, clean/new elegant one-story building, great food, activities, and warm, home-like atmosphere. That said, I experienced/witnessed troubling lapses - missed medications/meals, inconsistent staffing/turnover, poor housekeeping/laundry, residents locked out, and billing/accountability issues - so be vigilant and insist on clear communication.

About The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer's Center of Excellence, Franklin

The Lantern at Morning Pointe Alzheimer's Center of Excellence, Franklin is a memory care assisted living facility located in Franklin, and it sits as part of a larger Morning Pointe campus alongside other senior living options, which helps create a sense of community and offers a continuum of care. The executive director leads the staff who focus on building relationships with residents and work to promote health, independence, and daily well-being. The Lantern provides 24-hour support with licensed nurses and clinical staff always available, taking care of health needs, medication management, and basic support such as help with bathing, grooming, incontinence, transfers, and escorting to meals or activities. Meals are served in a restaurant-style dining area, guided by a dietician and using fresh, local produce whenever possible, with menu options available for no-salt-added and reduced-sugar diets.

This facility is designed to offer a safe environment for individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, and the dedicated memory care neighborhood feels much like a home, with one-story layouts and spaces where residents can socialize or relax. Programming includes specialized memory care using the Best Friends™ Approach, Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care, and the Meaningful Day™ program, plus therapies like music, art, and even cuddle therapy. Life enrichment activities keep people engaged every day, with options like exercise classes, cognitive games, arts, sensory activities, live entertainment, group outings, and volunteering or service projects. Intergenerational programs with local schools and colleges help connect residents to the wider community, as do group outings and partnerships with nearby groups. There's an activity room for recreation, and the staff work with each resident's interests, strengths, and life experiences to personalize support, especially for those in early to moderately severe stages of memory loss.

Care staff make regular check-ins and provide help as needed with daily routines, and transportation services are also available. The environment offers both structure and flexibility, aiming to keep residents safe while encouraging as much independence as possible, and the whole place is focused on supporting physical, emotional, and cognitive well-being. Family support and expert guidance are part of the services, with resources available about long-term care and insurance. The Lantern holds a 4.5-star rating from a couple of reviews and stays certified for quality care. This is a place where people with memory loss, Alzheimer's, or dementia can get support in a comfortable, secure, and vibrant setting, surrounded by a team that works to enrich daily life, foster community, and provide care that adapts as needs change.
