    Attractive community but nursing concerns

I toured the facility and was impressed: beautiful, very clean 34-acre campus, lovely apartments (I saw a one-bed ~800 sq ft and two-beds), manicured outdoor spaces with deer, an attached bistro/café and restaurant-style dining, plus lots of activities and transportation. Staff and residents were friendly, informative and engaged - the place felt vibrant and well-run, even dog-friendly. However, care quality was mixed: dining can be inconsistent and I heard troubling reports of neglect, grooming issues, caregiver turnover and injuries in skilled nursing, so higher-level care gave me pause. I'd recommend it for independent or low-care seniors seeking an active, attractive community, but be cautious if you need reliable skilled nursing.

About Morningside at Menger Springs Independent Living

Morningside at Menger Springs sits on 42 acres beside Menger Creek in the Boerne, Texas Hill Country, and since 1961, this faith-based, not-for-profit community has focused on dignity, quality of life, and compassion for older adults and their families. The executive director is Jil Utterback, and the administrator is Jeff Chamberlain, and with about 201 to 500 employees, the staff have a reputation for being helpful, joyful, and kind to residents, visitors, and each other, and the organization itself is part of Morningside Ministries, which runs several communities in Texas like The Meadows and The Chandler Estate. The campus at Menger Springs offers a Life Plan Community model that lets people move between independent living, assisted living, memory care, rehabilitation, and long-term skilled nursing as their needs change, and they're focused on helping seniors stay active and engaged.

The independent living options at Menger Springs include Menger House Apartments, Cottages Under the Oaks, and The Overlook Apartments, with an expansion of terrace homes planned for summer 2025, and all three neighborhoods provide nutritious meals, Wi-Fi, transportation, parking, spacious sunlit living rooms, and pet-friendly policies. People living here can take part in a full calendar of activities, festivals, and community events, or enjoy amenities like modern kitchens with stainless steel appliances, walk-in showers, and comfortable dining areas with natural light, while the housekeeping, laundry, and professional landscaping services keep things running smoothly. The assisted living side, called Cibolo House, is state-licensed and offers help with daily needs like medicine, dressing, and bathing, and the memory care program is set up for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, with staff trained to help manage memory impairments and bedrooms decorated with gentle colors, artwork, and potted trees to bring some comfort.

For those needing more care, there are licensed nursing care facilities for 24-hour support, short-term rehabilitation at Kendall House to help people get stronger and return home, and hospice care along with both Medicare-certified home health and non-medical home care services. Adult day programs and volunteer opportunities give people a way to meet others, and there are even membership deals and job search resources. There's no shortage of ways to stay involved or to get support for every stage of life, and people say the meals prepared by chefs and meal planners are healthy and enjoyable. Morningside at Menger Springs has received good reviews and awards like the Best of Senior Living and Best Activities, and they have a community brochure for those wanting more details. The whole place seems to care about helping older adults thrive, guided by faith and a long-standing mission to enhance lives through supportive communities.
