    Warm, affordable stay with caveats

I arranged a short-term respite stay at Texan House for my mom and was relieved: the small, family-like community, scenic Hill Country grounds, and incredibly attentive staff (Chris and management went above and beyond) made her feel like family. It's affordable, pet-friendly, close to shopping, and a relaxing, reassuring home-away-from-home - but not set up for higher-level care: some rooms are converted barn stalls with small/dark bathrooms, limited mobility access, no certified med staff or emergency call system, and meals can be inconsistent. I highly recommend it for short stays and independent seniors who need companionship; not for serious memory or medical needs.

    About Texan House

Texan House sits in the historic town of Boerne, TX, on a ranch estate with beautiful oak trees and rolling hills, and the grounds cover four acres of nicely landscaped gardens where folks can walk pets or sit out in the sun. There's a strong focus on independent living, so residents have choices with furnished or unfurnished Stable Rooms, Barn Suites, Cottages, or one-bedroom studio apartments, all with private bathrooms, washer and dryer connections, and accessible features like ground-floor units, wheelchair access, and easy-entry showers, plus 9-foot ceilings, faux wood plank or carpet flooring, and energy-efficient appliances. The whole place attracts people who want maintenance-free living, because laundry, housekeeping, home-cooked meals, and even local transportation are all included, and the staff takes care of upkeep inside and outside, which makes things easier for everyone.

You'll find both indoor and outdoor common areas-there's a large ranch house dining room and living room for meals and get-togethers, game and library rooms for quiet time, community rooms, and a fitness center, and outside, there's a dog run, walking paths, places to gather, and a swimming pool with a hot tub for relaxing or swimming, which is nice for Texas summers. Texan House keeps things lively with regular activities, games, and events, along with social gatherings aimed at helping people stay healthy, involved, and connected, and for those who want, there are offsite devotional services.

The community is age-restricted and is designed just for seniors who want a quiet, close-knit spot to call home, or for those needing a short break, because they do respite stays, too. Pets are welcome, with both cats and dogs allowed, and resident parking is included. Healthcare support, including medication management, high-speed WiFi, DirecTV or cable in all apartments, and all bills paid for everyone, takes some worries off folks' minds. The management does their best to be responsive and helpful, and the staff tries to make everyone feel like part of a community. All in all, Texan House offers senior living in a Lone Star style, with many choices for staying active and independent in a safe and friendly place.
