About The Hillcrest of North Dallas

The Hillcrest of North Dallas is a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center with 120 certified beds, and the staff there offer both short-term rehab and long-term care, so folks can get help whether they're there for a short stay or need more ongoing support. The place has a team made up of licensed therapists, nurses, social workers, and independent physicians, and they're there around the clock to help out, making sure residents get the care they need day or night. Hillcrest is known for providing both assisted living for those who need help with day-to-day things like bathing, dressing, or taking medicine, and also memory care for people with Alzheimer's dementia, which helps folks feel safe and prevents wandering. There are private rooms that are pretty spacious, each with a TV and a phone, and the kitchen staff, including chefs and dietitians, plan and prepare meals that follow nutritious guidelines and include choices for dietary needs and faith-based preferences.

They focus on care for folks who require more help, like wound care with certified wound care nurses and a wound care specialist doctor, and there are also services for palliative and supportive care if someone needs that level. The team also does rehabilitation with physical, occupational, and speech therapy, making plans that fit each person, and tries to help residents regain some independence. Social services are available as well, to help anyone adjusting to new living arrangements or managing changes in their health, and the staff, who are often described as helpful and joyful, work to keep a friendly and welcoming feeling in the place, so people don't feel alone. There are plenty of activities planned by the staff, and the facility has won awards for having some of the best activities, which help keep folks engaged mentally, emotionally, and physically. Hillcrest has received the Best of Senior Living Award for its efforts in different types of care.

However, the facility has had a number of challenges over the years, and inspection reports show 40 deficiencies, including three for infection control and some related to resident rights and respiratory care, which got severity level D and E ratings. The Hillcrest of North Dallas is a Special Focus Facility Candidate, which means there have been serious quality concerns, but the government hasn't given it a formal flag yet. Nurse staffing levels are a bit lower than the state average with 3.25 nurse hours per resident per day, and the nurse turnover rate is higher than is typical in Texas, coming in at 67.5%. Inspections have taken place recently, in December of 2024, and the facility's had a history of quality issues, but it continues to operate under the management of Dallas County Hospital District since April 2017, and Hillcrest Of North Dallas LLC since November 2022, and it has ownership or management ties with Fundamental Healthcare. This is a for-profit partnership.

Hillcrest makes a point of focusing on residents' rights and practical support, trying to create an environment of warmth and care, and it has staff available at all hours for whatever residents might need, from health care to personal assistance and social activities.
