    Highly recommend small compassionate facility

I placed my parent here and we're very happy - the small, clean facility feels like a home with compassionate managers (Andrea and Megan) and well-trained, attentive staff. Strong COVID precautions, good meals, engaging daily activities and excellent communication give us peace of mind; residents are treated with dignity and love. I'd highly recommend it.

    About AutumnGrove Cottage Copperfield

AutumnGrove Cottage Copperfield sits on a quiet private property at 8524 Copperbrook Drive in Houston, Texas, and serves only sixteen residents in a home-like setting designed just for seniors with Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia, so folks living there get a lot of personal attention because the staff-to-resident ratio's over twice as high as in bigger places, and there's always somebody awake and ready to help, including caregivers, nurses on staff day and night, and a doctor on call, and when residents need extra medical attention, visiting nurses, podiatrists, and dentists can come in, and for those needing therapy, there's physical, occupational, and speech therapy as well. People who live here have private bedrooms and bathrooms, and the building tries to feel like a regular house with an open kitchen, a great room for gathering, hardwood floors, a covered porch, outdoor gardens, walking paths, and easy wheelchair access, and residents can bring their own furniture to decorate their suite the way they like, which helps to make things feel familiar, and there are arts and crafts rooms, a beauty and barber shop, rec room, and places to sit together and talk, because connectedness and comfort matter a lot. The community's set up with security in mind, so there's a gated entry, controlled access, night patrol, a computerized wandering alert system using bracelets, and a secured memory care area that helps keep folks who might wander safe, and the staff have special training in dementia care, including in behavior management, so they're able to help people who act out or are at risk of leaving the property. They help with bathing, grooming, getting dressed, and reminders for using the toilet, and they can do assisted transfers if someone needs help moving from bed to wheelchair, or even handle folks who use mechanical lifts, though folks who are incontinent need to be able to manage with help and reminders. Meals are included and cooked right in the open kitchen, plus there's nutrition and hydration programs built for people with memory loss, and there are options for special diets, like vegetarian, kosher, or low-salt, and everything's meant to keep residents healthy and comfortable, from laundry and housekeeping to utilities and free WiFi. Activities go on each day, with life-enrichment programs, reminiscing, gardening, arts and crafts, music, movies, games, holiday events, group activities, live entertainment, and even pet-friendly areas for walks, since some residents can have their pets. Residents can get spiritual support off-site, help with VA benefits, and financial advice, and if anyone ever needs it, hospice services can be brought in. The whole place is designed to feel safe and calm for people with memory problems, so between the secure setting, strong staff support, simple floor plans, and home-cooked meals, residents feel cared for with respect and kindness all the time.
