    Good therapy, inconsistent nursing care

I placed my mom here for rehab and overall I'm grateful: the facility is clean, welcoming, and many nurses, CNAs and the therapy team (PT/OT/ST) were exceptional - social worker Christy Lopez and events hosted by Selina were lovely. Therapy helped her regain strength and staff like Tiffany, Joy Burpe, Pat Charles and Cindy Peña often went above and beyond. That said, care was inconsistent: slow call responses, understaffing, safety incidents (my mother fell), insulin/glucose mismanagement and rude or unresponsive nurses at times, plus some food, building maintenance and billing issues. I'd recommend this place for short-term rehab because of the strong therapy and many compassionate staff, but be cautious and confirm diabetes/safety protocols and administrative responsiveness for long-term stays.

About Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center

Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center sits at 3130 South Brahma Boulevard in Corpus Christi, TX, and serves seniors in the Kingsville area who need help with daily activities or more advanced nursing care, so folks can expect a nursing home with 120 certified beds and about 109 residents, usually around 87 on most days, with some getting support to recover after surgery or illness and others living there longer term. Residents here get different levels of care, including skilled nursing, memory care with a secure unit for Alzheimer's and dementia, therapy like physical, occupational, and speech sessions, plus respite care, hospice, and support for daily tasks like eating, grooming, and bathing, and staff make sure to help with tasks that people can't manage alone. Nurse staffing averages about 3.04 hours per resident each day, and that breaks down to 0.47 RN hours, 0.73 LPN hours, and 2.75 CNA hours per resident per day, but nursing turnover is fairly high, sitting at about 50%, so people may notice different faces over time.

The center runs several health-focused programs, which include pain management, pressure sore prevention, urinary health, and nutrition and diet counseling, and they carry out 24-hour medication and healthcare services with vaccination programs reaching 92% of long-stay residents for flu shots and 88% for pneumococcal vaccines. Medical help is always available with 24-hour emergency support, and therapy and rehabilitation are tailored to each resident's needs, especially for those regaining independence after an illness. Though the facility aims to keep residents safe and comfortable with policies against mistreatment, neglect, and abuse, it has gotten some health inspection deficiencies, about five total, including issues with quality of care, administration, infection control, pharmacy services, and not always handling food properly or employing qualified dietary staff, with a recent inspection on May 24, 2024, showing two infection-related problems and one citation for not following federal infection control standards.

Residents can join in social activities like arts and crafts, bingo, field trips, hobbies, group socials, and there's both a resident and family council to give everyone a voice. Amenities include semi-private and private rooms, secure memory support areas, a therapy gym with a home-transition kitchen, transportation and laundry assistance, WiFi and cable, a beauty salon and barbershop, a TV room, therapy and dining rooms, and an outdoor courtyard, with security systems in place for safety, and transportation assistance for those who need to get out and about. Nutrition is a focus, but the facility's had some deficiencies tied to food sourcing and dietary staff, showing there's room for improvement in kitchen and food handling.

Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center works with Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and private pay, offering help for a variety of needs, and also has options for different health plans like Texas Independence Health Plan HMO I-SNP and IE-SNP. Ownership ties to Dewitt Medical District, and the management list includes Taneicha Grady Bravo, Donovan Dekowski, Regency Integrated Health Services LLC, Regency IHS of Kingsville LLC, and Dewitt Medical District-all since 2015 except Taneicha Grady Bravo since March 2023. The facility isn't a Special Focus Facility or a Continuing Care Retirement Community, but provides a home-like setting for long-term and short-term care. The center has full fire sprinklers, up-to-date security, and encourages a welcoming atmosphere with community involvement. People interested can find details, costs, reviews, and scheduling options for tours directly on the center's website, and the staff is open to letting visitors see the community, meet people, and learn more in person. The place draws on support from the broader Kingsville community, and by focusing on tailored, compassionate care, Kingsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center offers a place for seniors to get both help and a sense of belonging, while still aiming to improve where it falls short.
