McAllen Nursing Center runs as a for-profit nursing home with a total of 122 certified beds and sees about 63 residents each day, and the facility offers care programs that include skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, hospice, and memory support for people dealing with dementia or Alzheimer's disease, while also having specialized care types for residents with different health requirements, so you'll find services like wound care, surgical care, stroke treatment, orthopedic care, pneumonia recovery, and even in-house dialysis, and the place provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy too. It's managed by Ari Silberstein, Eliezer Scheiner, and Mcallen Hc Llc since February 2024, and it runs above the state average for nurse staffing with each resident getting about 4.17 nursing hours a day, compared to the state's 3.4. While the facility aims to tailor care plans to each resident's specific needs, inspection reports have cited it for 23 different deficiencies, which include issues like not keeping complete care plans for every resident (F0656), failing to protect resident-identifiable information and maintain proper medical records (F0842), not labeling or storing drugs in locked compartments as required (F0761), and having 2 violations related to infection control standards. The environment's designed with comfort in mind, offering unique names for its care programs and amenities, and residents get access to comfortable living spaces, fine dining, and outdoor areas where they can relax or socialize, plus staff runs engaging programs in arts and crafts, fitness, and full activity schedules, and the center's also a Music Memory Certified Organization that offers activities geared toward memory and enjoyment. Transportation services and specialty care options are available, and the place provides respite care if needed. Health resources are given through library materials, a care guide, symptom checker, and information on medications, medical tests, and procedures, and you'll also find education about assistive devices and recovery resources for behavioral health. The facility's connected to funding and programs like the Affordable Care Act, HRSA-supported health centers, and forms part of a large network supporting seniors and people with disabilities. Emergency services, recent upgrades to boost resident comfort, and amenities for convenience round out the options available at McAllen Nursing Center, but it's worth noting the list of deficiencies and keeping in mind the areas listed in inspection reports when thinking about the total picture.

Excellent therapy but poorly managed
I had a mixed experience. The therapy team, many CNAs and some nurses were excellent - caring, professional, great rehab, good food and housekeeping, clean facility, and my loved one really improved. But the place felt poorly run and understaffed at times: slow, sometimes rude staff, weak restorative care, small outdated rooms, poor communication (we were never properly informed about mold concerns) and missing clothing/theft worries.
