    Unsafe uncaring facility avoid this

I had mixed feelings: the facility offers good programs, meals, dining, a clean layout and some caring, dedicated staff. But I also witnessed unsafe, uncaring care - cold showers, poor hygiene, call buttons removed, meds undocumented, long delays, residents left unattended (seizures for days, a dropped patient, ER/ICU visits), and rude, unprofessional staff who blame each other. A few staff were helpful, but overall I left with a very negative impression and would urge others to look elsewhere.

    About Regent Care Center

Regent Care Center sits at 1351 Sadler Drive in San Marcos, Texas, and offers a wide range of living options for seniors, so you see everything from assisted living and independent living to continuing care in a community that covers many levels, and they've got personal care, skilled nursing, and memory care in place for folks who need them. The center operates as a for-profit partnership, and through the years, their long-term care quality grade has hovered at a B-plus, sometimes climbing up to an A or higher, but there have been some uneven stretches, with their overall historical rating settling at a B-minus and facility inspections varying from F all the way up to A, currently at an A-minus, and their latest inspection showed 4 deficiencies, which is something families might want to ask about.

At Regent Care Center, skilled nursing staff provide medical and daily living support around the clock, and both long-term and short-term stays are available, including respite care when caregivers need temporary help. The center's rehabilitation services include physical, occupational, and speech therapies, all provided in a dedicated gym, and residents with wounds or in need of IV antibiotic treatment can receive care on-site, and they've also got tracheotomy and respiratory care as well as nutritional counseling. Seniors with dementia or Alzheimer's live in secure areas where staff use memory-focused activities in settings designed to help prevent wandering and confusion, and there's specialized attention for high acuity, non-ambulatory, and incontinence care along with daily medication management. They also provide internal medicine services, with professionals like Ian Woodwick, a psychologist who offers therapy for members dealing with issues such as ADHD, depression, or grief, plus psychiatric help from folks like Sussana Howard, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and there's even access to therapists who use play therapy, EMDR, sandtray, and expressive arts approaches.

Rooms come with wheelchair-accessible showers, and the facility tries to make seniors feel at home, offering outdoor seating, typical room setups, and amenities described as "resort-style living," though what that actually means may depend on individual needs or expectations. Regent Care Center strives to keep seniors active and connected, with both on-site and off-site activities, and a schedule full of social, educational, and entertaining programs, making space for friendships and mental engagement. The homes include options for virtual tours so families can look around without coming in, and folks can pay using Medicare or Medicaid. Staff hours, both registered nurses and medical care, are tracked and reported, and you'll find all the main therapy and comfort services there, plus ancillary providers such as dietitians, dental, and podiatry care.

There are no resident or family councils, and the facility has special accommodations when needed. Regent Care Center has been part of the San Marcos community for a while and has earned a solid reputation with compassionate and individualized care by highly trained professionals, trying to make sure every resident is able to sustain as healthy and fulfilling a life as possible, no matter how long their stay might be, and although there's always room for improvement, the care and activities go a long way toward helping seniors thrive physically, mentally, and socially.
