    Compassionate care, clean facility, concerns

I toured Brookdale Willows Sherman and overall I'm impressed - the staff are caring, attentive and knowledgeable, nurses manage meds well, and the community is clean, bright and home-like with friendly residents. There are plenty of activities and rehab support, though I'd like more variety and outings. Food is generally okay but inconsistent (some lunches/sandwiches and portion concerns), and communication, staffing turnover and rising prices have been drawbacks. I'd recommend it for compassionate, responsive care - just confirm staffing, costs and activity plans during your tour.

    About Brookdale Willows Sherman

Brookdale Willows Sherman is a senior living community that's part of the Brookdale network, and the main goal here is to help older adults get the care they need while making daily life feel more comfortable and connected, so you've got folks living in their own private apartments, whether they pick a studio, a one-bedroom, a two-bedroom, or a shared suite, and the buildings are all one story to make getting around a little easier, plus the hallways and communal areas are built wide enough for walkers and wheelchairs so nobody feels crowded trying to get through. They serve people who want to live as independently as possible, people who want some help with things like bathing or getting dressed, and people who have memory issues like Alzheimer's or dementia, and there's a dedicated memory care unit in its own building, where staff trained with special Clare Bridge Training work closely with residents using personalized activities and extra safety, including technology like bracelet alarms and a secure perimeter for folks who wander or may get lost, and there's always someone there 24 hours a day, nurses on site, behavioral specialists, and a memory care manager usually present on the unit, so people get a lot of attention, especially if they live with confusion, difficult-to-manage behaviors, or need help with personal tasks like using the restroom or taking medicine. People can bring their pets, like dogs or cats, and the floor plans are pet-friendly, which helps a lot because animals keep people company, and the facility does a good job on meals, offering room service and any-time dining, and making sure everyone gets nutritious, fresh food that fits their needs, especially if they have diabetes, since the staff can check blood sugar and give insulin. Activities are big here, so you see residents going on outings, participating in trivia games, tasting wine, going to devotional services, or finding a quiet spot in the garden, library, or fireside living room, and there's a full-time activity director making sure the calendar stays busy, which is nice because many people want to stay active or find friends. The place is pet-friendly, has a beauty shop for haircuts, a barbershop, Wi-Fi, a game room, transportation for errands and appointments, and events going on both inside and outside. If someone needs more care as time passes, they don't have to move out, since Brookdale Willows Sherman offers several levels of support, including skilled nursing, home care, assisted living, and memory care, so anyone can age in place without the stress of relocating, and for those who need a short stay, respite care is also available. Staff keep a watchful eye for safety, whether that means helping with transfers, monitoring behavior, or using special bracelets for those with memory concerns, and the community's licensed and up to date with state rules, which matters to families who want peace of mind. Brookdale Willows Sherman offers a friendly atmosphere, staff who often seem genuinely kind, and shared spaces designed to help people feel part of things while still able to keep to themselves when they like, and this straightforward approach to daily living earned recognition from US News and World Report as the best assisted living for 2024, but the real advantage here is that the place tries to make daily life simple, safe, and as enjoyable as possible, without making a fuss about it.
