    Caring staff, facility needs improvement

I placed my loved one at TLC West and found the medical and care staff-especially Michelle and CNA Anjane-attentive, professional, and timely with meds; the locked dementia unit felt secure and the small atrium gets nice sunshine. That said, the building is dated, rooms were sometimes dirty or missing linens/pillows and smelled, aide response and communication were often poor, discharge/transfer paperwork was delayed, activities minimal, and the food tended toward high-carb with few alternatives. Overall I'm grateful for the dedicated staff and would recommend cautiously given serious upkeep and administrative issues.

About TLC West Nursing and Rehabilitation

TLC West Nursing and Rehabilitation sits on Marlandwood Road in Temple, Texas, and folks here tend to notice how it's known for higher-level, advanced care, because when someone comes in for help-maybe after a hospital stay-the goal's mostly about getting them back on their feet and back to normal life as soon as possible, and you can see this focus in the way things run around here, since there are all kinds of specialized services, like diabetic insulin management, stroke recovery programs, chronic condition support for problems like CHF or COPD, and there's always a staff member watching medication reminders and everything needed for tough days. The nursing home provides both short-term rehab for folks healing up and long-term care for those with ongoing needs, and there's always 24-hour skilled nursing, wound care, IV therapy, tracheostomy care, and respiratory support for people who need more hands-on help, with a Chief Medical Officer who knows a lot about geriatrics and the special requirements of older patients. There's on-site medical help, including physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and even hospice and palliative care, so family members can feel a sense of comfort knowing there's a wide safety net right there.

People living there spend their days in a mix of ways, since the place offers enrichment programs and activity choices, some right on site, like group games, crafts, devotional moments, and use of common rooms, while there are also outings when residents want to get out for off-site activities. There's a beauty shop for some grooming and a meal service with nutrition plans tailored to each individual, including for those with diabetes or swallowing problems, and meals get served in indoor common areas where folks gather and visit. There's a big focus on the whole person here-looking after the emotional and spiritual side in addition to the medical details-so staff try to build connections and a supportive place to live, whether it's for a short rehab stay after surgery or for long-term care with incontinence support and non-ambulatory needs.

TLC West uses modern technology to keep the air clean and safer for everyone inside, and has developed partnerships with local providers so health care feels seamless when someone goes to or from the hospital, which can matter a lot. The facility's got a regular review score of about 3.0 from a couple of posted reviews, which is average, and services cover both assisted living needs and skilled nursing, so residents can find a steady routine no matter their health level. The whole facility was designed with comfort and care in mind, with amenities and staffing based on what helps most, and if someone needs joint replacement rehabilitation, wound healing, or even just engaging activities to get through each week, they'll find it here, with the team always trying to enrich each resident's life in a practical and compassionate way.
