The Independence Village is a unique assisted living facility dedicated to adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities, providing them with a safe, supportive, and family-oriented environment. The foundation of The Independence Village is rooted in the vision to help its residents achieve their VOICE—encouraging each individual to experience the highest level of personal independence possible. The ethos of this residence is to offer not just a place to live, but a true home where a sense of belonging, dignity, and community are fostered each and every day.
For over 30 years, the staff at The Independence Village have created a caring and nurturing environment where a family atmosphere is constantly encouraged and developed. The facility is home to 24 residents, ranging in age from 19 years and up, who are individuals with Down syndrome, developmental disabilities, or who have experienced brain injuries and require minimal assistance in their daily activities. Residents are supported to participate actively in their community; many are employed part-time or full-time, embracing opportunities that further their independence and personal growth while always having the secure foundation of The Independence Village to return to.
The physical layout of The Independence Village is thoughtfully designed to empower its residents, featuring large residential suites equipped with living rooms and spacious closets, as well as built-in chests of drawers. Bathrooms are carefully designed with the needs of the physically challenged in mind, ensuring both safety and accessibility. Community areas, such as the expansive game room and entertainment area, provide spaces for residents to gather, socialize, and enjoy a vibrant array of activities and entertainment. The environment is supported by a service-first staff, offering 24-hour assistance to meet everyday living needs, while promoting autonomy and dignity in every aspect of care.
The Independence Village operates as a privately funded non-profit, with a strong focus on creating opportunities for residents’ engagement and fulfillment. Volunteers and donors play a significant role in making the Village a warm and enriching place to live; community efforts help maintain the well-balanced meals, supplemental snacks, and comforts that make the environment feel like home. The Village Store, wish list donations, and seasonal benefit events further enhance the everyday experiences of residents, tying the broader community together with the heart of The Village.
Encouraging independence while providing the reassurance of support, The Independence Village stands as more than an assisted living facility—it is a place where meaningful personal growth is celebrated and where each resident’s journey is respected. Activities, entertainment, and community involvement are central to life in the Village, all within a foundation of love, comfort, and hospitality. Through its unwavering commitment to service, The Independence Village continues to support adults with intellectual and physical disabilities in living vibrant, engaged, and independent lives.
