    Compassionate staff but safety concerns

I was impressed by the compassionate, professional staff (Joyce Johnson in particular), immaculate, homely facility, tasteful decor, cozy common areas, thoughtful meals and personalized care that made my aunt feel at home. However, restrictive policies (limited freedom, locked or restricted common areas, food off-limits after hours), lack of outdoor space and troubling reports of serious incidents in their care left me uneasy. Great day-to-day care, but weigh the safety and autonomy concerns before choosing.

    About Lakewood Assisted Living

Lakewood Assisted Living sits in Wills Point, TX, close to several places of worship and outdoor parks, so folks can find both spiritual and recreational activities nearby, and when you walk in, you'll probably notice that the place only takes up to 11 residents, so it's not one of those giant, crowded types, which makes it feel more like a tight-knit group where staff can really keep track of everyone. Residents get help with things like cooking, housekeeping, laundry, bathing, dressing, and transferring, and the staff stay on site 24 hours a day in case anyone needs something in the middle of the night, which comforts families since someone's always there for safety and peace of mind. The facility arranges transportation for medical appointments and can help get folks to visit their doctors, and there's move-in coordination to help new residents settle in without much fuss, plus when family wants to visit, parking and transportation options are available. Meals use organic ingredients whenever possible, and the kitchen makes sure to handle special diets for allergies, diabetes, or other needs, serving all-day dining if someone's hungry outside of normal meal times, and the housekeeping and linen service means no one needs to worry about chores piling up, they just get taken care of. Each room comes furnished, with either private bedrooms, suites, or shared rooms, and some even have a kitchenette, so those who want a little independence can make small snacks or coffee, and all rooms have air-conditioning, telephones, cable or satellite TV, and high-speed internet, which helps everyone stay connected to friends and family. Lakewood offers several types of care to fit what someone might need, like assisted living for folks who want independence but might need help now and then, memory care for those dealing with dementia, long-term or skilled nursing care, and even independent living for people who don't need much help at all, plus home health care and non-medical home care are also available, and if hospice becomes necessary, those services can be arranged too. People who need help taking medicine, managing diabetes, or handling non-ambulatory care get support from trained care staff, and if a resident ever wants to join in, there are on-site activities, scheduled daily events, community-sponsored outings, devotional activities off-site, garden walks, or quiet movie nights in the common area, so there's usually something going on or a quiet spot in the garden to rest. The dining room, indoor common spaces, outdoor gardens, and walking paths provide plenty of different places for relaxing, visiting, or joining in group activities, and the emergency alert system means help is nearby if an accident happens. Lakewood Assisted Living is licensed by the state of Texas, License #148245, and operates as a small LLC, so when you add it all up, you get a community that tries to support folks where they are-offering care for daily living, medication, activities, dining, and safe, comfortable rooms-without being too big or overwhelming, just a place where a handful of seniors can live comfortably, with staff providing what's needed day and night.
