Averte is a residential care home dedicated to serving adults living with serious mental illness who require structured support to be successful in daily life. Nestled in the scenic Connecticut River Valley spanning Bradford, Vermont, and Hanover, New Hampshire, Averte offers a serene environment where residents can focus on their health, wellness, and personal growth. The organization provides an array of services aimed at developing cognitive, emotional, and physical resilience, ensuring that each individual is given the opportunity to change the trajectory of their life in a supportive and nurturing setting.
Averte’s approach combines the clinical programming of an on-site treatment center with the comfort and personalized attention of a residential home. The care model is designed to bridge the gap between institutional custodial care and independent living, offering multiple levels of highly individualized support. The program can accommodate those who are recently diagnosed, transitioning from hospital care, or those who simply need additional assistance to thrive in the community. Residents can choose from short-term stays as brief as 45 days, or opt for open-ended time frames tailored to their unique needs.
The residential campus consists of four licensed homes: Main House, Hanover House, Gray House, and Bradford House. In addition, Cape House, The Cottage, and Pleasant St Apartments broaden the spectrum of living arrangements, including seven independent living apartments for those ready for greater autonomy. The homes maintain a high staff-to-resident ratio, creating an un-locked, family-style atmosphere, with 24-hour general supervision and awake overnight staff at the main campus, and sleep staff at the other houses. There are a total of 41 licensed beds and 37 private rooms, ensuring residents have privacy and security while being part of a caring community.
A holistic suite of programs is central to life at Averte. Activities include community building events, art groups, clinical therapy groups, volunteer opportunities, and physical wellness sessions, all designed to help residents build essential life skills. Emphasizing personal growth and social integration, Averte’s structured but flexible programs empower residents to participate actively in their communities while working towards greater independence. The combination of comprehensive therapeutic services, meaningful activities, and supportive residential care makes Averte a unique and invaluable resource for adults facing the challenges of mental illness.
