    Beautiful community but inconsistent care

I moved my loved one here and was struck by the beautiful, brand-new, hotel-like building, great location near DC/Arlington/Old Town, bright spaces, courtyard and top-floor terrace. The staff are often kind, compassionate and go above and beyond-move-in coordinators and dining staff deserve special praise-and there are plenty of creative activities and usually very good meals in a lovely dining room. That said, the community is short-staffed with high turnover, inconsistent care (especially for higher acuity/cognitive needs), spotty response to call buttons, canceled activities, and uneven food/service at times. It's expensive but promising: excellent for independent living and social life, though I'd be cautious if you need reliably strong nursing or assisted-living care.

    About The Landing Alexandria

The Landing Alexandria sits in National Landing's Potomac Yard near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Virginia Tech Innovation Campus, and Amazon HQ2, and you get wide views of the Potomac River and Washington, D.C., so folks see bright city scenes and water from many of the 163 apartments with private balconies, and the walkable neighborhood puts residents near restaurants, stores, pharmacies, and the Metro. This community suits older adults who value independence but might need help with daily tasks, offering choices for Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care-and The Bridge service-so people get care that fits them, whether they just want company, some help, or more support for Alzheimer's or dementia with programs like Teepa Snow's Positive Approach to Care®. Staff here offer support with things like showering, dressing, grooming, and even have a nurse on site part-time, and the care team helps with medication and specialized diets including diabetic, vegetarian, low fat, and low salt, and families can know residents have access to preventive health screenings, rehab services, and hospice if needed.

The building itself's got wide-threshold doors, emergency call buttons, wheelchair-ready bathrooms with support bars, and access-controlled apartments, so safety stays up front, and there's 24-hour security, a secured underground garage, and a clever Autocleaning Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization (NBPI) System that helps beat airborne viruses. Room options range from studios to one- and two-bedroom apartments, and many have big windows, kitchenettes, high ceilings, walk-in showers, and Wi-Fi, and the cleaning staff keeps things fresh with laundry and linens included. Residents and families come together in places like the Skyline Terrace Lounge or outdoor terraces, and the onsite dining rooms dish out chef-prepared meals that can be casual or elegant, with all-day dining options and a wine cellar for a special touch-there's even a coffee shop and club rooms, plus on-site boutique shopping.

Activities, events, and recreation play a big role, with a Community Life Director in charge of clubs, field trips, arts and crafts, music, and tabletop games, and plenty of chances to meet neighbors or friends-plus literary and educational events for those who love to learn, and there's always something happening for mental, physical, social, or spiritual well-being. Health and wellness programs cover yoga and stretching, medication reminders, health education, physical and occupational therapy, and even on-site pharmacy for easy refills. When it comes to getting around, general transportation services help residents reach appointments or shopping spots, with both a parking lot and guest parking handy for visitors.

The pet-friendly policy means furry friends are welcome, and the community setting gets described as warm and welcoming, kind staff included-folks say staff's helpful and joyful, which helps everyone feel at home. Special memory care neighborhoods use routines and programming to calm residents, and assisted living areas let couples stay together even if one needs extra support. Fees start with a $5,000 entry cost, and the state licenses the place under ALF 1104995. The Landing Alexandria blends modern safety, comfort, and community ties in a spot with views, convenience, and a steady focus on helping every resident live with dignity and support that matches their needs.
