    Caring staff, affordable but average

I toured the place with Sandy - she was energetic, enthusiastic, and very helpful. The staff and medical team are caring, attentive, and genuinely look after my mom; meals, free laundry, in-room service, and easy parking were all positives. Rooms are a good size, accessible, and homey (fridge/microwave, outside access); the older building is clean and well maintained. Activities exist but outings are limited, and the presence of some high-need residents gave it an occasionally institutional feel. Overall I liked it and it fit our budget - not bad, but not great.

    About Parkside Retirement Community

Parkside Retirement Community in Auburn, Washington, has been caring for seniors since 1973 and, with its 94 licensed and WHCA beds, really does feel like a place that's lived in and looked after, especially since the staff has people who've been working there for decades and always seem to know what to do. The community sits in a quiet spot set back from busy roads, but you can walk to shopping, parks, doctors, and even catch local transportation without much fuss, which comes in handy for keeping some independence. Parkside offers a wide range of services, including independent living for active adults (age 55 or 62+), assisted living, home care right on site, adult day care, memory care for people with dementia or Alzheimer's, and hospice and respite care, so most needs are covered and the staff really seem to pay attention to changes in health or routine.

Seniors who live here get plenty of choices, from studio units to one- and two-bedroom apartments, all with their own kitchenettes, private bathrooms, washers and dryers, cable TV, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and phone connections, and since they allow both dogs and cats in private quarters for residents who want the company, that's a big comfort for some. The whole place is designed for getting around easily, so there are wheelchair-accessible showers, ramps, and emergency call systems, plus sprinkler systems and other safety features, and there's both indoor and outdoor common areas that work well for relaxing, having a chat, or spending time with family.

When it comes to food, everyone gets three balanced meals a day, plus snacks, and the staff consults with residents about menus, dietary preferences, and special needs, with vegetarian and diabetic-friendly options available, and meals are served in communal dining rooms so it feels social without being forced. The amenities are pretty thorough, with an activities/game room, a theater, a beauty salon and barbershop, laundry and dry cleaning, a library, fitness center, spa, walking paths, gardens, arts and crafts rooms, and regular movie nights, as well as both on- and off-site programs and group trips for anyone who feels like joining in.

Care is handled by licensed nurses and trained caregivers who can help with medication, bathing, dressing, grooming, incontinence care, blood glucose checks, and more, all with higher staff-to-resident ratios than most facilities, and there's an on-call nurse, regular visits from doctors, psychiatrists, and specialists like podiatrists, dentists, and rehab therapists. Memory care, known here by their in-house names for services, is specialized for those with dementia, and the cost can be higher for that kind of healthcare, though family support and coordination with Medicaid do help. The rates include maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, and other basics, and residents get free transportation, help with parking, and support for day-to-day routines and staying active.

There's always a full calendar-arts, education programs, devotional services, and social events, and the staff keeps activities and exercise easy to join for anyone, including those with limited mobility or special needs, and the rooms are quiet for downtime. Special contracts with Community Stability Support (CSS) and Expanded Community Services (ECS) help with harder cases, and Parkside works with local Social Services for extra resident support. The no-smoking policy keeps indoor air clean, and several floors and living spaces make it easy to find a spot that fits. Parkside Retirement Community is owned by Noble Healthcare and remains a steady option for people in Auburn, having a Medicaid occupancy rate near 39%. The Seniorly Community Score is 4.8 out of 10, which shows decent quality but also leaves room to ask questions if you're considering moving or placing a family member there.
