    Good facility, inconsistent care, fatal

I placed my loved one here and appreciated the organized, professional operation - a pleasant, knowledgeable director, clean/sanitized home, onsite staff, Liberty meds management, user-friendly bathrooms, bed/TV/laundry included, alarms for beds/falls and wheelchairs, varied weekly menus, and visiting hours 10:00-7:00. Many caregivers were compassionate, attentive, and the room and backyard view were nice. However, staff behavior and knowledge were inconsistent; I encountered rude, unhelpful caregivers and poor care that ultimately led to my loved one's death - I regret moving them here. Mixed recommendation: good facilities and administration, but be very cautious about care quality.

About Heart of Gold Adult Family Home

Heart of Gold Adult Family Home sits in Lakewood, WA, between Gravelly Lake and Interstate 5, close to Lakewood Towne Center and St. Clare Hospital, and it provides a small, private, and homelike setting with care for up to six residents at a time, always aiming for personalized routines and plenty of attention. The staff's there around the clock, with two caregivers on shift and support for daily living needs like bathing, dressing, and grooming, along with medication management, meal preparation, and housekeeping, and they work in English. Residents get help with personal hygiene, eating, and mobility, and folks with memory loss or needing dementia care have custom routines and a secured home with call button systems and alarmed doors for those prone to wandering. The facility offers both single and shared rooms, wheelchair accessible showers, and Hoyer and stand-up lifts for people with limited movement, and there's a main shared shower along with private bathrooms for dignity and comfort.

There's 24-hour care and supervision with support for many conditions like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke, cancer, traumatic brain injury, diabetes, paralysis, and mental health needs, plus wound, catheter, and feeding tube care, so people don't need to move if care becomes more complicated toward the end of life. The home welcomes male and female residents, is LGBTQ friendly, and follows visiting hours from 9 am to 8 pm. The setting features indoor and outdoor common areas, a large patio and grassy lawn, and gardens with fruit trees, as well as TVs in shared rooms, Wifi, resident parking, private telephones, laundry, a library, fitness center, and a salon/barbershop, so residents get some home comforts. For safety, there's a fire sprinkler system, emergency call buttons, and alarmed exits, and a generator in case of power outages.

They allow pet visits, but pets don't live there, and smoking areas are outdoors. There's a staff nurse practitioner and full-time RN, nurse visits, and doctors come by, and the team can help arrange visits from therapists, MSWs, and dietitians for special needs. The staff helps coordinate transportation to doctor's appointments or outings, and they also offer activities like games, sing-alongs, craft classes, holiday and birthday celebrations, regular exercise groups, and organized community trips, so residents can stay active and social if they want. There's support for visual and hearing impairments as well as special dietary needs including kosher meals.

Care options at Heart of Gold include assisted living, skilled nursing, independent living, hospice, respite (short-term), and adult day care, and they accept residents needing developmental disability support and behavior supports like the HCS Meaningful Day and DDA programs. The house keeps its licensing up to date (license number 750859) and DSHS verifies their profile, but Medicare isn't a payment option unless certified by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Rates for full care start at $5,000 and go up to $6,500 per month. Touring hours run weekdays and weekends, 8 am to 7 pm, and there's always a live person answering calls at any hour, seven days a week. There's one vacant bedroom, private dining with family is available, and the team offers free consultations and assessments for families and future residents. The place aims to provide clear, consistent, and compassionate support so seniors can live in comfort while families have peace of mind.
