    Caring staff but awful administration

I placed my stepdad here and the caregivers were loving, attentive and compassionate-providing tender, total care. The staff shine, but the administration is unprofessional and the owner awful; this is great hands-on care, not a luxury hotel.

    About Whidbey Island Manor

Whidbey Island Manor is a senior care community in Washington that offers several levels of care, including assisted living, memory care, nursing home services, and independent living, so if someone needs extra help as they age or simply wants a supportive place to live, they can find it here. The manor serves up to 58 residents, with about half of the beds currently filled, and gives folks options ranging from studio rooms to suites, each with safety features, wheelchair accessible showers, and modern touches like cable TV, Wi-Fi, washers and dryers, and kitchenettes for convenience and comfort. Their memory care programs are set up for people living with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia, and the outside doors and secure entryways help keep everyone safe, especially those known to wander. Staff available around the clock give help with daily needs, including bathing, dressing, grooming, bathroom support, walking assistance, and managing medications, always following plans made with input from nurses, doctors, families, and the residents themselves. They run monthly medication checks by a licensed pharmacist, cook healthy meals on site (with choices for special diets like vegan, vegetarian, low sodium, kosher, sugar-free, and foods for those who have diabetes or high blood pressure), and let residents eat either in a big dining room, with room service, or alongside visiting guests.

Community activities matter at Whidbey Island Manor, so most days there's something going on, like music therapy, pet visits, exercise or board games, walking outside, gardening, Bible study, cooking classes, art and crafts, educational speakers, movie nights, or live music-the kinds of things that help people connect and stay active. There are indoor and outdoor spaces for relaxing, walking, or enjoying the gardens, and the property has a fitness center, jacuzzi, salon and barbershop, a book room, and even a game room. If someone needs to go to appointments or wants to join a spiritual service, transportation can be arranged, and there are devotional activities both on-site and off-site to fit different traditions. The grounds are well-kept, with walking paths and flowerbeds that residents can visit at their own pace. There are no published prices, so interested families need to ask about costs directly with the community or a local advisor.

The manor maintains modern safety and hygiene standards with clean living areas, sprinkler systems, and air conditioning, plus policies that forbid any neglect, abuse, or theft, and staff go through background checks for everyone's protection. The medical director and review group watch over the quality of care, making sure the nursing home areas stay free from danger and that all medications are handled safely. Families get regular updates and the staff tries to keep in close communication if residents' conditions change. While Whidbey Island Manor doesn't have formal family or resident councils, it keeps a strong focus on personal dignity, choice, and professional standards, offering services like wound care, podiatry, and occupational therapy as needed, alongside help for more complex needs like incontinence and high-acuity medical issues.

The manor participates in Medicare and Medicaid and has won awards for their care and community, with a reputation for friendly staff and a welcoming spirit. The facility's connected to Warm Beach Senior Community, known for a warm and supportive feeling. Whidbey Island Manor doesn't run as a continuing care retirement community, so it's best thought of as a place for seniors who need memory care, help with daily living, or want independent living with access to support when needed, delivered in a simple, straightforward environment.
