    Great care despite rude desk

I have mixed feelings: the phone/front-desk customer service is rude, but the caregiving staff are awesome - meds are always correct, patient feeding is handled well, and bathing and haircuts are included. Home-cooked meals are delicious, rooms are fine, and security is excellent.

    About Bethany Adult Family Home

Bethany Adult Family Home sits at 4711 17th Ave NW in Olympia, Washington, serving Thurston County, and lets only six residents move in at once so each person can get detailed care from licensed nurses, including an RN available day and night, which sounds reassuring and is good for people who want some quiet and privacy with staff who get to know them well, and the whole place is owned and managed by nurses who've worked there a long time so they know how to handle all kinds of needs, whether someone just needs regular help with bathing and getting dressed or more serious care for wounds, diabetes, hospice, or even using a ventilator, oxygen, or colostomy bags, with the staff always ready to help with most any problem, big or small. The facility is set all on one level, making it easy for wheelchairs, walkers, and folks who worry about getting around safely, and with alarms and secured areas plus emergency call systems, the staff can keep an eye on residents who might wander or leave by mistake, especially those with memory problems like Alzheimer's or dementia, which are common here since the home specializes in memory care, and the staff keeps a close watch so everybody's safe, especially exit-seekers. There are both private rooms and common areas, where people can bring their own furniture or things from home, decorating however they like to keep things familiar, and residents and their families get treated like family too, everybody gets called by name, and the staff shows respect and tries to maintain each person's dignity, even when times are hard or when they're at the end of their lives and need hospice care, which the home does offer.

Bethany makes meals right there in the home, serving three cooked meals a day with snacks, and there's always help for those who need special diets, from diabetic to kosher or anything a doctor says, even tube feeding, and daily tasks like laundry and housekeeping get done for everyone, so rooms and clothes stay clean, plus there's showers that are easy for wheelchairs and staff will help anyone bathe who needs it, which is often a real blessing. Residents who need medicine get help from the nurses for everything from blood glucose checks and insulin shots to catheter care, and the home's able to handle high-acuity cases and people who have trouble moving, maybe even are quadriplegic, which means they have almost total care needs. Living at Bethany doesn't mean sitting in one chair all day either, since the home keeps up with activities like puzzles, games, coloring, Bible study, cooking projects, birthday parties, musical programs, and holiday celebrations, plus the activity director fills weekdays with ways to stay mentally and physically active, and for folks able to travel safely, the staff can arrange rides using the home's own bus for outings or just to get to appointments, which is handy when families live far away. There's outdoor gardens and spaces to sit, a smoking area, a private patio with fruit trees, and both single and shared living rooms offer spots for people to relax, talk, or watch TV on the big cable setup with smart remote controls, or use the guest Wi-Fi.

Bethany is fully licensed, gets regular checks by the state (license number 752547), and has extra features like pharmacy service, on-site therapy (physical, occupational, and speech), even podiatry and dental hygiene visits so people don't need to travel much for care, and if someone's health changes, the staff can update care plans quickly, with quick help for falls or changes in behavior. This adult family home welcomes short-term (respite) stays, has vegetarian meal options, supports people who have trouble hearing or seeing, and encourages both companionship and family visits between 9 am and 8 pm, though anyone can tour by appointment most any day, always during business hours. The experience here is one of steady, gentle support rather than anything showy, with a strong focus on keeping life as home-like, safe, and kind as it can be for seniors who need real help. The home has a low online review score (1.0), but it is recognized by Assisted Living Magazine as a top-rated community, and nurses on site every day try to keep things running smoothly. This is a home that aims to let adults age with as much dignity and comfort as possible, meeting medical and emotional needs in a smaller, more personal setting.
