    Compassionate staff but severe issues

I loved the compassionate CNAs and nurses, the immaculately clean, pleasant facility, private rooms, good meds coordination, and engaging activities - it felt like top memory care in Sequim on paper. But for over $90,000/year I ran into chronic understaffing, safety incidents (injuries, heavy-handed sedation), and promises of specialized care that weren't kept. Communication from management was poor and sometimes rude, family input ignored, and residents were at times unsupervised. I'm grateful for many caring staff, but I'd caution families to verify staffing, safety, and management responsiveness before committing.

    About Dungeness Courte Alzheimer's Community

Dungeness Courte Alzheimer's Community sits in a quiet spot near Washington Harbor and focuses on helping people with Alzheimer's disease and other types of dementia. The building is made to feel like a family home and has a safe loop layout both inside and outside, which lets residents walk and explore safely, so they can feel free but stay safe. Residents can enjoy a tranquil courtyard with walking paths, fruit trees, and gardens, and there's always staff around to help. The facility has 44 licensed beds, with options for private or semi-private rooms, and each room has a private bathroom and shower, simple furniture like twin beds, chairs, nightstands with lamps, and built-in armoires, and families can decorate the rooms with pictures and favorite things to make it feel like home. The staff includes nurses and caregivers trained in dementia care, with someone on-site 24/7 to handle emergencies or any needs day or night.

The community offers care aimed at supporting people with memory loss, including help with bathing, eating, grooming, dressing, and medication management, and all residents get their laundry and housekeeping done at no extra charge. Licensed dieticians plan meals, which are fresh and served three times a day, with menus that match the needs of memory care residents. Daily life includes many activities that keep people engaged, such as group programs, exercise and fitness plans, social events, and time outside in the gardens or on walks in safe, open spaces. There are family support groups that meet each month, a resource library with pamphlets, videos, and guides about dementia, and quarterly workshops open to families and the public to help people understand more about Alzheimer's and caring for those with memory issues.

Dungeness Courte has a senior adult day care program that gives caregivers a break for a few hours or up to 30 days, and respite care is available hourly or overnight when needed. Before someone moves in, staff do an assessment to see what care the person needs and what they like or don't like. Residents can get transportation for doctor appointments, and there's free Wi-Fi, high-speed internet, and parking.

Handrails and wide hallways help people who have trouble getting around, and the whole building is locked and secure to keep residents from wandering off, while still letting them move about safely. The executive director, Linda Potter, and her team from Northwest Care Management, Inc., manage the community and make sure staff keep up with training and state licensing reviews. Each day, cheerful and compassionate staff work to help residents feel comfortable, safe, and at ease, and the focus always stays on giving care that respects people's dignity, keeps them healthy, and lets them do as much for themselves as they can. This community makes a strong effort to support both residents and their families through education, activities, and care personalized for every individual living there.
