    Caring staff, bright facility, recommended

I'm very impressed - the staff genuinely care, owners are hands-on, and my mom feels at ease. The small, clean, bright facility has lovely grounds and patios, pleasant rooms, good food, and tailored activities that encourage socializing. Downsides: cramped central location with limited parking, occasional communication/visiting-hour restrictions, and pricing can be a drawback. Overall I'm happy with the care and would recommend it.

    About Colonial Court

Colonial Court is a locally owned senior living community in Spokane Valley, Washington, and families find that because local people operate it themselves, they can often do things the way residents need and want, and the staff has somewhere between 51 and 200 employees, so there are always enough hands around to help and visit with everyone, and people get to know the same faces every day. The place does both assisted living and memory care, allowing people to stay as their needs change, which means most residents don't need to move again just to get extra help when they get older or their health changes. The team, made up of certified Elder Care Assistants, licensed nurses, and other professionals, stays on site day and night to help people with bathing, dressing, medications, mobility issues, mild or heavy care, and those experiencing challenges like dementia, confusion, or regular memory loss, and everyone does their best to answer calls quickly, use safety monitoring devices, and design activities that keep people active and involved.

There's an emphasis on treating each person as an individual, and the staff talks regularly with families, outside doctors, and therapists if someone needs extra help; this includes podiatrists, dentists, and physical, occupational, and speech therapists who can come right into the building instead of making residents go to appointments. The community has programs and staff prepared for residents who might wander, behave physically, or need reminders for things like taking medicine or using the restroom, and the secured memory care section uses wandering prevention bracelets to help everyone stay safe.

Residents can usually keep pets like cats and dogs if they wish, and there's a strong focus on making sure no one feels lonely, bored, or stuck inside, with easy access to a library, a full activity calendar with art classes, music, movie nights, gardening, trips out, trivia games, karaoke, brain fitness, and even intergenerational programs now and then, which means sometimes kids or grandkids visit to do things together. There's a cozy living room to gather and chat, a bird named Buddy in the main lounge, and green paths outside with a gazebo where people can take walks, sit, and relax. The dining room serves restaurant-style meals made by a trained chef, and residents can eat all day, including options like kosher, vegetarian, gluten-free, allergy-sensitive, and diabetic menus, plus private spaces for family get-togethers, and sometimes room service too.

Each apartment comes furnished with a private bathroom, some kitchen features, air conditioning, cable TV, a telephone, and high-speed internet, and people can relax in the spa or beauty salon when they want a trim or a bit of pampering. Colonial Court helps with all levels of care, offering light, medium, or heavy support as needed, and the team is able to help those with incontinence, diabetes, or other medical needs, including hospice and respite care, and devotional or spiritual services for those who want them. People can smoke outside only, and the building is wheelchair accessible with showers, full tubs, and safety features throughout. Transportation is included for when residents need to go to appointments or just want a ride somewhere, and parking's available for those who drive. Residents help plan activities, and the overall pace feels more homelike and family-driven than a big institution. The community protects the rights of LGBTQ+ residents, and everyone's rental arrangement includes utilities, though the details on that and the fees need to be checked with the staff. The care aims to provide peace of mind for residents and their families, and the staff's main goal is to help people age in place while feeling comfortable, safe, and part of a friendly group.
