    Compassionate ventilator care, family-like team

I'm grateful to have found a ventilator-friendly, well-run senior home where long-tenured, compassionate nurses, CNAs and respiratory therapists provide 24/7, above-and-beyond care. They use modern respiratory equipment, deliver excellent ventilator support, work as a cohesive, family-like team, and keep residents engaged with events (BBQs, crafts, movies) in a clean, warm environment. Management and a hands-on owner keep operations smooth and responsive - I trust my loved one is truly valued and cared for.

About Better Options Ventilator Specialty Home

Better Options Ventilator Specialty Home sits in Vancouver, WA, and goes by Rite Choice Ventilator Specialty AFH LLC and Better Options Ventilator Care Adult Family Home, and it's run by Faia Stevenson, a registered nurse with over 25 years of experience in ventilator care, and what really stands out about this place is how it's been around as the original adult family residential center for ventilator-dependent patients in the area, and it's got a special focus on long-term, non-acute care that's more affordable than a full-scale nursing home. The facility is a modest Adult Family Home with six licensed beds (license number 752667), so the residents usually get more personal attention, as the nurse-to-patient ratio is low, about 1 nurse for every 3 residents, and the staff includes licensed nurses, credentialed caregivers, and medical specialists such as doctors and a respiratory therapist who are on call and make in-house visits, along with CNAs and registered nurses around the clock. It's mainly for private pay, as Medicare isn't accepted unless you see a Medicare certification, so most families pay out of pocket, but what many families like is the home-like environment where the staff know all the residents and people can decorate their private or semi-private rooms with their own things and furniture, which can make it feel more like home.

Residents here are usually seniors who need ventilator support, and the care team, who've been trained by the equipment manufacturers, use up-to-date medical tools including ceiling lifts and even portable x-ray machines for in-house scans, and they put together personal care plans for each resident to manage their medicines, health, and daily needs, and since nurses and CNAs are there at all times, vital checks and respiratory care happen several times a day, with all changes in a resident's health getting reported quickly. The place handles everything, from meal prep and personal hygiene to coordinating doctor appointments and hospital trips, and families get peace of mind knowing transportation to outside doctors is arranged, medicine is handled, emergencies are managed, and staff take care of the details so family members can focus on visiting and spending time together. People can stay here long-term, or use the facility for short-term respite care, which gives family caregivers a break, and the environment is designed to be safe, nurturing, and filled with holiday and birthday celebrations so residents can enjoy some joy and connection even when they have high medical needs.

What sets Better Options Ventilator Specialty Home apart is the specialty in high-level ventilator care, but it's also the personal touch, with a small group of residents and a team that helps with mobility, daily engagement, companionship, and support for chronic illnesses, as well as regular visits from nurses and social workers, so nobody feels left out or neglected. The center is classified as a board and care community, and it tries to create a supportive, relaxing, and homelike place for people who need advanced care, with an aim to treat everyone like a person rather than a patient, and because the staff do the extra work communicating with families and doctors and celebrate little milestones throughout the year, a sense of community grows over time for most who live there. Families often choose it because it's skilled in managing complex ventilator care in a setting that feels much less like a hospital and a lot more like home, and the focus on individual needs helps take some of the weight off families faced with hard choices about long-term care.
