    Pleasant facility with minor concerns

I placed my loved one at Charleston House and overall I'm pleased - beautiful, roomy apartments, very clean and homey, with attentive, friendly staff, good nursing/medication oversight, lots of fun activities (car shows, ice cream truck, wine & paint, live music, bingo) and convenient on-time meals and services that eased daily life. My only concerns: occasional repetitive/poor meals, periodic staffing turnover/understaffing and rare reports of slow management response (and an isolated pest report) - still, I'd generally recommend it after touring and asking direct questions.

    About Charleston House Assisted Living

Charleston House Assisted Living sits near Beaver Dam Lake and has lovely views and quiet spaces, so folks can rest easy or stroll the lush gardens and patios whenever the mood strikes, with wild birds and the changing Wisconsin seasons always on display. The place welcomes men and women, offering choices for both shared and single rooms, with some spaces reserved for ladies only, and every apartment features its own patio or balcony and a full-size refrigerator, plus bright, airy windows that pull in the sunlight. Residents aged 55 and older can bring their pets along, though some rules apply, and family and friends can come visit and park right on-site, so there's no trouble with finding a spot or walking too far, especially on game nights or special social events.

People who move here don't have to worry about repairs or heavy cleaning, since trained staff handle all the housekeeping, maintenance, and laundry, and every unit comes wired with cable and free high-speed WiFi, so everyone stays entertained in their own way, from watching Packers football in the common rooms to crafting, music, tabletop games, and even beer and cheese tastings. Charleston House has nurses and an executive director on site, a Resident Care Coordinator (an RN), and a mix of caregivers, chefs, bus drivers, and activity staff available 'round the clock, so whether someone needs simple companionship or more in-depth help, there's someone close at hand to assist with medication, daily needs, two-person transfers, or advanced care for diabetes, Parkinson's, colostomy care, and all types of memory loss including dementia and Alzheimer's Disease. For those who need a little extra, the community offers specialized programs like custom medication management, on-site physical therapy, special diets, palliative care, and hospice services, with around-the-clock nursing and personal aides who treat everyone with respect and kindness.

The dining room serves up three hearty, gourmet meals each day, with snacks and drinks always out for those who want a bite between activities, and if someone's not up to joining the table, room service brings meals right to their door, which can be nice during times of illness or just a quiet afternoon. Folks can join clubs and groups-like the gardening team or the resident musicians-and get out and about with community bus outings for shopping, medical appointments within fifteen miles, or simple trips around town, and weekly events include everything from devotional services and game nights to scooter races. The facility has all kinds of modern comforts, with a movie room, a chapel for quiet moments, a beauty salon and barber, spa services, fireplaces, and private dining rooms where families can gather. There's also an emergency call system in every apartment, which lets residents press a button if they need help right away, whether for a medical problem or just for peace of mind in the night.

Smoking isn't allowed indoors, so the air stays fresh, and the staff work hard to keep things safe, supportive, and homelike, whether someone is fully independent, part of memory care, or uses assisted living services in the certified Residential Care Apartment Complex (RCAC) or CBRF (Community Based Residential Facility). The Charleston House team aims to help each resident keep their independence as long as possible, but steps in with gentle, personalized care for bathing, grooming, hygiene, ambulation, incontinence, and daily medication when it's needed, always striving to maintain each person's dignity and sense of belonging. Programs and care plans can be tailored to fit what each person and their family needs, from simple check-ins to complex, hands-on support, and everyone's encouraged to join in on what interests them, staying active both inside and out on the patios or on trips to nearby parks and golf courses. There are tours scheduled for new folks who want to look around, and the Charleston House keeps its state license up to date, sticking by the rules and regulations that keep everyone safe.
