    Caring staff but severe neglect

I have mixed feelings: my mom sometimes enjoyed it and many RNs/LPNs/CNAs and the director of nurses were loving and went above and beyond. But I also experienced serious neglect - days with no food or water, left in bed and not taken to the bathroom, sedation without consent, and she developed a UTI/pneumonia and was hospitalized. Because of that I cannot recommend this facility; avoid placing your mom here.

About Caraton Commons - De Pere

Caraton Commons - De Pere sits on Arcadian Lane, right in a peaceful, green suburban part of town, and it's got three buildings, each with private or semi-private rooms, most of them with private bathrooms, which is always nice for comfort and privacy, and they keep a steady focus on keeping everything clean, tidy, and pleasant. You'll see residents who want their independence, because there are independent living options for seniors who don't need much help, and for folks who do need more support, there are assisted living services to help with bathing, dressing, medication, and the usual daily things that can get trickier with age, so nobody needs to feel rushed or overlooked. There's also a separate part for memory care, where seniors with Alzheimer's or other memory concerns can live protected lives with staff that watch out for their safety and keep them in a comfortable and structured environment to lessen confusion and wandering, which really helps the family to rest easy, knowing someone's always keeping an eye open.

The activities there make a difference because they've got a full-time activity director who sets up all sorts of events, from trivia to field trips and social get-togethers, so folks don't sit around bored, and people can join devotionals, outings, or just visit in the many indoor and outdoor common spaces. Whenever it's time to eat, the meals are planned with nutrition in mind and cooked to meet different dietary needs, so residents and their guests, who are always welcome for a meal, never have to settle for less, and there's even a private dining room for special get-togethers or quieter meals. Residents' laundry is done separately, and you'll see that kind of attention to detail throughout, from the beauty salon with a dedicated beautician, to simple things like wheelchair-accessible showers and resident parking.

Families don't have to worry about strict visiting hours either since the doors are open day and night, and people can call anytime, adding a whole lot of peace of mind, especially with staff present around the clock and building security features like secured doors in two of the buildings. The staff are known for being friendly, helpful, and kind, making the place warmer, and the renovations over time mean everything feels a little more up-to-date and comfortable. Caraton Commons provides not only assisted living and memory care, but also nursing services, incontinence care, diabetic support, hospice care, and non-ambulatory care, so residents can stay as health needs change.

With 60 beds across the three buildings, Caraton Commons keeps its community close-knit, and there's always something to do, somewhere to relax, or someone to chat with in the garden or one of the lounges. It all comes together to give seniors a place where independence is encouraged, but help is never far away, and the day-to-day is about comfort, safety, and community.
