United Community Center Latinas Unidas 2 is part of an expansive network that belongs to the broader United Community Center (UCC) organization, a longstanding nonprofit known for its commitment to community growth and empowerment on Milwaukee’s south side. UCC’s mission centers around transforming lives within the Hispanic community, offering high quality comprehensive services that span education, health, human services, cultural arts, and community development. Since its humble beginnings as a youth center, UCC has evolved into an intergenerational safe haven, currently serving more than 15,000 individuals each year and supporting people ranging in age from just six weeks old to 103 years old.
At Latinas Unidas 2, the community’s vision of an empowered and thriving Hispanic population is brought to life through an array of programs designed to nurture, educate, and cultivate wellness and success across the generations. The Early Learning Academy, a cornerstone of UCC, provides a nurturing and enriching environment for the youngest learners, focusing on early childhood education and early literacy, ensuring students enter Kindergarten prepared to excel. As part of the larger educational framework, students are provided with a continuum of support that meets academic, social, and emotional needs.
Beyond early learning, UCC offers a breadth of opportunities for personal and community development. Programs such as the boxing program invite youth and community members to participate in healthy, confidence-building activities. The homebuyer counseling program provides pivotal resources and education to help community members achieve the milestone of home ownership, along with access to down payment assistance through partnerships with public initiatives. Latinas Unidas 2, through its integration with UCC, also supports ongoing health and wellness education. The weekly radio show “La Hora de Salud” is produced by the Community Health Research Department and focuses on delivering actionable public health information to the Latino community, fostering a proactive approach to wellness.
Community involvement and volunteerism are core pillars of life at Latinas Unidas 2. Volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities are welcomed and encouraged to become part of the supportive environment, contributing in a variety of ways to meet the diverse needs of residents and program participants. With a passionate and highly committed staff dedicated to fostering growth, learning, and belonging, Latinas Unidas 2 is a vibrant extension of the United Community Center’s decades-long legacy of service, rooted in the belief that every member of the community deserves the opportunity to achieve their fullest potential.
