    Clean well-maintained great food ineligible

I toured the community and was impressed: very clean, well-maintained, and the food was awesome. Independent living is pretty good and there's convenient underground parking. I was disappointed to learn I'm not eligible at age 45. Excellent accommodations for hearing aid and cochlear implant users - hearing loops in the chapel and dining/activity room are clearly signed.

About Carmel Residence • Miravida Living

Carmel Residence • Miravida Living sits on a quiet property in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and lets people choose from different living options like independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, and memory care, so everybody can get the care that fits them best, and while the community is nonprofit and connected to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, it always tries to keep a warm, respectful, and family-like feeling where people are treated with dignity. The place offers well-kept apartments including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom layouts, all set up with handy basics like washers and dryers, air conditioning, cable TV, dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves, and microwaves, which means folks don't have to worry about modern comforts. There are nice spots for socializing, such as a Patio Lounge, Patio Pub, spacious dining areas, and a library, and everyone can get together for meals made with care, share stories, or sit on the screened community porch and watch the day go by.

People who like to stay active can use the warm-water pool, go to the fitness center, play games, work on crafts, or attend performing arts and education programs, and there's also a movie theater with club seating, a pub for relaxed gatherings, and well-tended gardens and patios. The Community lets residents take part in outings to things like Timber Rattlers games and monthly dinners, or they can join garden groups, chapel services, and brain fitness classes, and those who need it can get therapy right on-site. The house keeps safety in mind too, with security features, a secure building, and sprinklers, and the "Hello, I'm OK!" card system helps neighbors know everyone's safe each day.

Staff at Carmel Residence come from different backgrounds-there are healthcare administrators, pharmacy directors, IT folks, and others-and they're trained to help with things like bathing, dressing, medication, wound care, and laundry, which lessens the load on families. Folks who want to stay independent can enjoy hassle-free living, but those needing support with memory struggles, rehab, or day-to-day tasks get round-the-clock help. Independent and assisted living services support residents who are healthy and want some freedom, while memory care aims to reduce confusion and keep a watchful eye on residents who wander. The on-site restaurant has a good menu, and the campus is smoke and tobacco free.

Extra amenities-like the beauty shop, heated underground parking, guest rooms for visitors, pharmacy access, and bus rides for shopping-are available for a fee, and people can use spaces like meeting rooms, lounges, a chapel, and community garden. People often find the atmosphere friendly and helpful, with staff going out of their way to make residents, families, and guests feel at home, and most say they feel like they belong and can join activities as much or as little as they want. The community's Thrive Program and organized activities keep everyone engaged, and personal interests are encouraged, whether that's baking in Gabriel's Villa kitchen, gardening, or just sitting outside.

Carmel Residence provides 70 independent living units and accepts tax-deductible donations, as it's a 501(c)(3) organization with a long history dating back to 1970, and as of 2023, it reported steady financials with strong support from the Miravida Living Foundation. The staff highlights the importance of caregivers and family staying involved and helps answer questions about care options, and the place carries awards for its service in Wisconsin. Transportation to shopping and outings, regular maintenance, and social events are all part of everyday life, and residents get the chance to try new things, make friends, and enjoy a lifestyle focusing on wellness, safety, and comfort.
