    Warm staff, excellent care, pricey

I was impressed by the warm, passionate staff, excellent nursing care, home-cooked meals, engaging activities, great communication, and a clean, recently remodeled Alzheimer-focused setting where my dad's health improved and residents seemed encouraged to participate. That said, rooms are very small with no showers, staff appeared overburdened with high turnover and didn't ask about my dad's preferences, and an alarm and dog sometimes made it feel unprofessional - it's also fairly pricey.

    About Elijah's Place

Elijah's Place in Oshkosh, WI is a secured dementia care community that sits at 1551 Southland Avenue and is built to serve people who have Alzheimer's, dementia, and other memory loss conditions, so the staff there understand how some folks might wander, have behavioral challenges, or go through confusion and social withdrawal, and they keep the property secure using alarm bracelets and dedicated care to help keep everyone safe. The building itself is purpose-built for memory care-it's got private bedrooms with personal bathrooms, wheelchair accessible showers, a central living area where people can gather, spaces for activities like planting, grilling and relaxing, plus indoor and outdoor areas to enjoy some sun or shade, and meals are available any time of day so no one has to worry about missing out if their schedule's different, and diets like gluten-free, low sodium, and low sugar can be provided when needed. The community brings in nurses, visiting therapists, a doctor on call, and has 24-hour awake staff to handle health needs or keep an eye out, and some staff can help with extra challenges, like folks who need help transferring with a lift, or managing insulin and blood sugar checks, or when someone needs help with both daily and complicated tasks that sometimes just get harder with age. Residents can take part in devotional services, attend chapel, join planned events, and participate in innovative programs like Cycling Without Age, Namaste Care, Noah's Landing, and Healing Touch, plus there's a beauty salon/barbershop, spa with whirlpool bath, community dining, a kitchen with a stove and refrigerator, and even a hearing loop for those who need it. Elijah's affiliated with Lutheran Homes of Oshkosh, so it leans into a holistic philosophy that recognizes everyone's physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, helps people be involved in activities and home-cooked meals, and supports living with purpose every day, even for those with behavioral or medical needs that require both light and heavy care, and families can find things like resources for funeral planning, veterans services, urns and keepsakes, and other end-of-life arrangements, with additional supports like transport, parking, guest rooms, and respite care available as needed.
