    Compassionate staff, beautiful facility, issues

My father lived here for 18 months, including end-of-life care. The facility is beautiful, clean, convenient and the compassionate staff treated him like family, giving us real peace of mind. One downside: there were occasional staff harassment issues and an uncaring owner with late/missed paychecks. Overall, he loved living here and received excellent care.

    About Oakwood Manor

Oakwood Manor sits off Omro Road in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and serves older adults in Winnebago County who need daily support in a home-like setting, and you'll notice right away the quiet hallways, the bright atrium for activities and the outdoor courtyard with a gazebo and walking path, which give residents space for fresh air and a little peace if they want it. The facility has private apartments designed for seniors, including studios, semi-private, and one-bedroom options, all set up with kitchenettes, dining areas, living rooms, bedrooms, and bathrooms with roll-in showers or full tubs. The apartments include features for safety such as wheelchair access, two-way audio call systems, emergency alert systems, sprinklers, and safety rails, while inside each room, residents will see natural light, accessible bathrooms, and cable or satellite TV, as well as a telephone.

Staff at Oakwood Manor provide 24/7 awake resident care for both planned support and emergencies, and people here can get help with medication management, bathing, dressing, transfers, and other personal tasks. There's standby help moving from bed to wheelchair, assistance with walking or using a wheelchair, and regular checks for those needing more supervision. For those managing diabetes or needing help keeping track of their blood sugar, the trained team at Oakwood Manor can help monitor health, and incontinence care is available, though residents need to manage some of this themselves. The facility welcomes seniors at different care levels-including those needing light, medium, or heavy care-and lets residents age in place with changing needs, whether it's non-ambulatory care, diabetic monitoring, or hospice.

Oakwood Manor features a secure memory care neighborhood designed for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's, providing structured programs to help maintain memory and mood through music, art, gentle exercise, and sensory experiences, and the staff follow unique care plans to limit confusion and wandering. There's a strong focus on personal dignity, independence, and fostering friendships, using community rooms, arts and crafts, activity spaces, and a fireplace for quiet relaxation. Common areas, both inside and out, let residents join social activities, devotional services, or simply sit together in peace. The courtyard, garden, and walking path offer places to enjoy the outdoors.

Meals are served three times a day in the dedicated community dining room, with chef-prepared options and menu choices for special diets like diabetes or allergies. Residents can eat together or enjoy all-day dining. There's regular housekeeping and laundry, including dry cleaning, with maintenance and room cleaning once a week, so apartments stay tidy and comfortable. Some apartments even offer furnished options, and there's guest parking available for visitors.

Oakwood Manor provides a beauty salon and barbershop on-site for haircuts or services, and besides a fitness center and game rooms, planned social, educational, and entertaining activities help everyone stay active and involved. The community provides transportation and parking, whether residents want to go to a local shop or need to get to an appointment. Some offsite activities, as well as devotional services, are available, giving residents a good balance of things to do. WiFi and internet access come included, and residents can bring in their own personal furnishings if they wish.

Staff and caregivers at Oakwood Manor speak English and support residents with trained care aides. Moving-in coordination helps new residents get settled in, and there's a clear focus on housing and care for seniors who want to be safe, comfortable, and as independent as possible while getting the help they need. Smoking is allowed outdoors in permitted spots. The community's been recognized with honors like "Best of Senior Living" and "Best Activities," suggesting people have found the programs and team quite supportive. Oakwood Manor keeps its approach simple, focusing on good food, regular care, safe surroundings, and enough daily support so residents and families can feel secure about their needs being met.
