    Warm compassionate staff and activities

I placed my aunt here and couldn't be happier - the staff, owners and administrator are warm, knowledgeable and genuinely involved, and care is timely and compassionate. The home is very clean, residents look happy, and the activities program is outstanding (daily programs, many outings, full-time activities director). The building is older with small rooms and there's often a waiting list/limited beds, but I still highly recommend this facility.

    About St. Johns Manor

St. Johns Manor sits in the heart of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, right in a neighborhood that makes it easy for the residents to get to nearby pharmacies, spiritual centers, and dining spots, and it's not far from Aurora St. Luke's South Shore hospital, so healthcare isn't hard to reach. The place is medium-sized, certified for up to 27 residents under the Wisconsin Department of Social Services, and offers both assisted living and memory care options, including specialized Alzheimer's care, so residents with different needs get services that fit them best. The facility has a very homey atmosphere where staff, who folks describe as kind, are always around day and night, whether you need help getting dressed, getting in or out of the shower, or moving around the building, and if you need a two-person transfer or use a wheelchair, they accommodate that too.

St. Johns Manor puts a lot of focus on keeping people active and involved, with a full-time activity director who organizes regular exercise sessions, crafts, movie nights, outings, music, and resident-run events, and there are scheduled devotional services both on and off site for those who want them, plus a lot of intergenerational activities and pet therapy sessions. If residents enjoy quiet time, they can use the book room or walk along the scenic paths in the garden, and there's also a common indoor space, a wellness room, music programs, and game areas for socializing.

Meal times are pretty straightforward since the staff prepares nutritious meals each day, and they can make special meal plans for folks with conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure, with diabetic care including insulin injections and sliding scale therapy. The kitchen uses good ingredients, and there's an all-inclusive pricing structure, so you know what expenses you're getting into. The staff helps with medication management and will set up transportation for doctor visits, errands, church, or outings and even offers complimentary rides. There's support for incontinence care and non-ambulatory residents, and bracelets with alarms help prevent wandering for memory care residents. Hospice and respite care are available if that's needed, and both male and female residents can stay, with some special activity accommodations for women.

The building itself has classic architecture and outdoor areas for gatherings or relaxation, and the setting's often described as picturesque, which makes it a nice spot for family visits or social events. There's a barber or salon, a spa, a wellness room, and wheelchair accessible showers. Smoking isn't allowed indoors, but there's a spot outside for those who need it. The owner is known for listening to residents and making sure the environment feels welcoming and clean, with a staff that aims to treat everyone with respect and personal attention. All the care services get tailored to the individual, whether someone needs light daily help or medium care, and the community prides itself on helping everyone feel like they belong, both residents and their families.
