    Compassionate, competent dementia care home

I placed my loved one at Homestead and I'm grateful - it's a small, homey 16-resident memory-care home with loving, attentive staff, a fantastic activity director, warm homemade meals, a large TV room and a sunny backyard patio. My family sees one-on-one attention, good safety and medication management, seamless hospice support when needed, and my person is happier, relaxed and smiling. It's not cheap, can't accommodate very heavy-care needs and I've noticed occasional staffing/drama and minor cleanliness lapses, but overall I highly recommend Homestead for compassionate, competent dementia care.

    About Homestead Living

Homestead Living sits tucked away in a quiet, park-like neighborhood and for nearly 30 years, the same family has run this small 16-bedroom memory care facility, where residents living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia find a place that's made to feel like a real home, with homecooked meals, garden-grown produce when possible, and cheerful spaces like a sun-filled patio, a piano in the great room, or parlor nooks for quiet moments. Homestead Living focuses on person-centered memory care, so staff, including nurses, a nurse practitioner, and aides specially trained in dementia, take time to get to know each resident, offering patience and understanding rather than treating behaviors as a problem, which helps support daily routines, dignity, and emotional well-being even for those who wander, act out, or need more help with personal care and hygiene.

The building is purpose-built for memory care, so there are secured entries, bracelets with alarms for wanderers, plenty of outdoor walking paths, and inside you'll see cozy rooms, armchairs by the window, and the smell of something baking. Residents can choose private or shared rooms, all on the ground floor and all wheelchair accessible, with full showers and tubs, which support independence as long as possible and allow heavy care for those needing help with every activity of daily living, including transfers, dressing, toileting, and dining. Staff are on duty around the clock, with high staff-to-resident ratios, and both nurses and care managers coordinate with family members and healthcare providers, plus arrange medication management, therapy visits, diabetes care, podiatrist and hospice if needed, and end-of-life support. The team can handle residents who are non-ambulatory, at risk of wandering or elopement, or even prone to physical aggression or unusual behaviors, always prioritizing safety and kindness.

Homestead Living's social life is as hands-on as the care, with an activity director leading daily events like gardening, yoga, art, intergenerational or pet visits, movie nights, and outings, all designed for mental engagement and ease, since most residents are living with memory loss; there are also devotional services both onsite and offsite, and plenty of time for sitting on the patio or watching birds near the white picket fence in a setting that encourages movement and connection over confinement. Meals are homemade and flexible, with anytime dining and guest meals, and the kitchen can handle special diets such as vegan, gluten-free, low sugar, or organic. Residents can move through levels of care as they age and their needs increase, with staff striving to maintain independence for as long as possible and provide gentle support where needed.

Homestead Living scores average reviews of 7.8 out of 10 on safety and care, uses a community score system to track quality, and participates in local programs like the Diamond accreditation and the Wisconsin Assisted Living Association. The home has remained family-owned and operated, and it still feels very much like a family environment for both residents and staff. The place has grown from a tiny house to a 16-bed dedicated facility, but it still keeps that feeling that people matter most, and the care model follows that same principle every day.
