    Clean facility but inconsistent staffing

I chose this facility for the clean rooms, hospice services and an adjoining apartment for my spouse - overall it feels like a high-quality assisted living option. Staff are a mixed bag: several caregivers were awesome and truly cared for my loved one, but others were rude/unprofessional (one scheduler in particular behaved so badly I felt they shouldn't be employed there). The place seems understaffed - slow nurse responses, a bit of a ghost town at times - and management largely ignored our complaints. Dining and food quality were inconsistent and not always affordable, so I'd recommend cautiously.

    About Homme Home Of Wittenberg

Homme Home Of Wittenberg sits in a quiet rural village and has a long history of serving seniors and people who need short-term help, offering a range of choices like independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care, and folks know it's both a faith-based and not-for-profit group with over 130 years behind its name. The place works as a Continuing Care Retirement Community, which means residents can stay through different stages of care, from living on their own to getting skilled rehab or moving to memory care if needed, and they keep things person-centered so everyone feels respected and listened to, making sure there's support for bathing, dressing, medication management, and other daily needs. The staff is friendly and trained, and they stay up day and night to make sure emergencies are handled quickly, so people and their families feel more at ease, and along with 12-16 hours of nursing and constant supervision, there's a strong safety net, including a call system in every room. You find pretty comfortable living spaces, with private or shared rooms, private bathrooms, walk-in showers, cable TV, kitchenettes, and high-speed internet, and there're services for housekeeping, laundry, dry cleaning, and even help with moving in so it's not too much trouble to settle in.

There are a lot of amenities that make daily life better, from a chef who prepares meals all day and special diets for those who need them, to a dining room where you sit down to restaurant-style meals with other residents, sometimes with snacks in between, and you can always count on nutritious food planned by folks who pay attention to health needs. The building has things like a movie theater, a library, an arts room, a game room, a fitness and wellness area, and activity rooms, plus places to walk outside, porch areas to watch wildlife, and a garden to enjoy some sun, and for those who like to keep busy, they sponsor movie nights, music, games, art, daily exercise, and social programs, both inside and out, usually set up by staff or sometimes run by the residents themselves. People can also get to town easily, with staff helping to arrange rides for appointments, shopping, or trips out to local clinics, dentists, pharmacies, and restaurants.

The Sunburst Memory Care unit gives extra support for people with memory loss, offering a safe space with 12 private bedrooms, built-in wardrobes, private bathrooms, and all the same supports as the rest of the community, with some tailored programs and therapies. No matter which part of the facility people live in, there's a focus on helping everyone stay engaged physically, mentally, and socially, and organized events create a steady rhythm through the week, along with on-site chaplaincy and ties to community churches for spiritual support. In the Community Based Residential Facility, there's room and board, daily help from staff, and up to three hours of nursing weekly, while respite care helps families when they need a short break, so even those only visiting for a few weeks find the same warmth and safety as long-term residents.

Everyone over 55 who's free of contagious sickness and able to pay for their care can apply, and while the facility welcomes people of all backgrounds, there's some preference given to those tied to member churches if there's ever a wait list. The building stays clean, with comfortable temperatures in the winter and summer, and the atmosphere tends to be warm and friendly, with residents often looking out for each other. Homme Home Of Wittenberg welcomes people needing help with diabetes, memory loss, or just the simple assistance that comes with aging, and always aims to provide care that fits each person's style and health background, never losing sight of dignity, faith, and comfort. The facility is recognized with solid ratings and awards, showing a good reputation in the area, and you find both charm and practical care in the well-kept settings of Wittenberg and its nearby partner in Wausau.
