    Beautiful home, but care concerns

I toured this large, beautifully decorated home close to me and liked the private patio room, huge 7' closet, friendly RN owner and caregivers (a male aide helped with exercise), flexible visiting hours, and the all-inclusive price that even covers diapers, food, laundry and hospice. I enjoyed the yard and homelike feel, but found ants/roaches in the bedroom, no transportation, food not allowed in rooms, some institutional safety features and a bed placed by a sliding glass door that worried me. There's no around-the-clock specialized care, I couldn't speak with caregivers directly, and those issues-plus concerns about my mom's finances and length of stay-made it unsuitable for her needs despite the positives.

    About Green Merrylands Murrieta

Green Merrylands Murrieta provides assisted living and memory care in a small, home-like setting licensed for up to six residents, which is about as close to a family-style place as you can get, and when you walk in you'll see there are both studio and semi-private rooms already furnished and looking cheerful and comfortable, plus some nice touches like wheelchair accessible showers. The staff keeps a close eye on things 24 hours a day, and they've really set things up for folks who need different levels of help, offering help with bathing, dressing, getting around, and managing medication, and they'll even handle more complex needs like diabetic care, incontinence, and transfers using lifts if someone can't stand or needs more hands-on support, which makes a difference for people who need more medical attention or are dealing with memory problems like Alzheimer's or dementia, and if someone needs more behavioral care or even gets physically agitated, the staff is trained to help safely.

There's a separate, secured section just for memory care-walls are up, doors are locked, and technology like alarm bracelets alert staff if someone tries wandering off, which is important when someone's at risk of getting confused or lost, and they do accept folks with those risks, including those who can be physically aggressive or tough to manage, so families who need that kind of care will notice the difference. You'll see cats and dogs around too, since they let residents keep pets, and the rules say you can't smoke indoors. The kitchen serves meals cooked up to handle dietary restrictions, like low-sugar diets for diabetes, and they'll arrange meal times and meals for what residents need, making sure there's always something nutritious on the table. Laundry, housekeeping, and linen service help residents focus on comfort and activities.

Green Merrylands Murrieta holds daily and community-sponsored activities indoors and outdoors, and there are devotional services onsite for those who want them, as well as lots of spaces to relax or visit, from the shared living rooms to outdoor areas, so residents can stay social while still having space to themselves when they want it. Transportation to medical appointments is available, though it'll cost extra, and there's also documentation showing they work with doctors, have a nurse on staff, and can bring in hospice or home health services if someone starts needing that support, including handling short-term or respite stays. The place sits close to public transit and will work with you on move-in and care planning, and if you ever wonder who's running things, it's managed by Brandon Marquez, who handles the business side. While there aren't lists of every amenity spelled out, and the place isn't BBB accredited, everything's set up for simple, supportive care, with an atmosphere meant to feel safe and welcoming for folks with both light and heavy needs, and that's pretty much what people have to know.
