    Caring staff, but unsafe practices

I wanted to love this RN-run, family-style home - the owners are warm and personable, the food is high quality and nutrition-focused, residents eat with staff, and the place is clean, comfortable and accessible with large common areas. The nurse-owner is clearly medically knowledgeable and there are on-site RNs, but staffing is thin, activities are sparse, and supervision/social stimulation is limited. Worst of all, after my mom fell and broke her ankle they didn't call an ambulance, communication stopped during her hospitalization, and she was kicked out despite promises she could return. Excellent meals and caring staff at times, but serious safety and communication failures.

    About Royal Manor AFH

Royal Manor AFH is an Adult Family Home that sits in Bothell, Washington, serving seniors in both Snohomish and King County, running under several licenses including 588600, 752027, 612300, 751474, 647900, 753412, and 2228, and it helps older adults with long-term care needs by providing both assisted living and memory care in a home-like setting, so you don't have to worry about unfamiliar or busy nursing home environments. The facility has a small number of licensed beds, usually two to six per home, which means staff can focus on each resident's individual needs, and because a nurse owns the place, medical needs get recognized fast and cared for well. They've got several units, including the larger Chateau at Bothell Landing Retirement Community with room for 122 assisted living residents, along with smaller setups like Loving Adult Family Home Units, Heart to Heart Loving Care, Norway Hill AFH, and Elisabetas Loving Care, each with space for about five or six; all spots get state and local government oversight, so families know care standards are followed.

The building's got a front entrance with lots of green space outside for sitting or gardening, plus both outdoor and indoor common areas where folks can pass the time. Royal Manor AFH lets people age in place with different care levels, so if someone starts off a bit more independent but needs more help later, they can stay without moving, and you'll find services like personal care, medication management-down to insulin shots and blood sugar checks, behavior support, and help with daily things like grooming, toileting, incontinence, and moving around, even with lifts or two-person help if that's needed. Safety runs all day and night, with 24-hour staff, secure memory care with alarmed bracelets for wanderers, and reminders for medication and daily tasks, so residents with Alzheimer's or dementia get special attention, and there are also systems that alert staff if someone tries to go somewhere unsafe.

The food is well-regarded, they can do vegetarian meals, snacks are out all day, and meals get cooked with quality ingredients; plus there's laundry, linen service, and a communal kitchen. Each person can live in a studio, a one-bedroom, or a semi-private room, and the rooms have wheelchair accessible showers, in-room emergency systems, and all homes are designed with comfort and safety in mind. Residents can bring small dogs and cats, and outdoor smoking is allowed. There are activities both on and offsite, a games room, a fitness section, and a living room for gathering or just watching TV, with transportation services if folks need to get to appointments or socialize elsewhere.

Royal Manor AFH takes a wide range of residents, including folks with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or chronic conditions who might need high-acuity care, hospice, respite care for short stays, or even behavioral care if someone acts out physically or might wander. There's a doctor on call, nurses on staff, and visits from a nurse, dentist, or podiatrist as needed, plus pharmacy services and a tailored plan for each person. Medical alert systems are available for families who want extra backup, and they offer information about things like Medical Guardian, ADT Medical Alert, and Bay Alarm Medical. For those wanting to stay connected, there are options for senior internet plans like Xfinity or AT&T, and simple cell phones such as Jitterbug and Consumer Cellular.

The site supports people who need both independent or assisted living, and there's parking for residents. The home doesn't take Medicare unless it's specially certified, but it does take care of most non-acute long-term needs for seniors, and its licensing and surveys by local departments help make sure care is steady and appropriate. All told, Royal Manor AFH keeps things simple and homely, aiming for a safe and comfortable life for seniors with a team ready to support changes in their health.
